Now that turf screen has been in the market for a couple seasons, how are people liking it?
I just bought a few applications of this product and plan to use in my next spray.

Are there any compatibility problems that any of you have had?

    Are there any negative effects?

    Thank you,

    Brent

We are loving the stuff, our greens and tees have performed awesome this year! Very minimal handwatering, is it turfscreen or just due to different weather pattern? I don't know, but I've been very happy with it!

As far as compatibility the only issue we've had is with Signature. My Bayer rep said its compatible but Signature has to be the absolute last thing in the tank. But we've had problems with it, not sure if its our spray tank solution adjuvant, the turf screen, or the signature though. But it looks like we are going away from Signature next year anyway.

We've mixed turfscreen with Dac Ultrex, Dac Action, Curalan, Armor Tech 44 (phosphite) no problems!

Looking through my records however I seem to have a mixing problem (constant clogged filters) when I have Signature and Daconil Action in the tank together.

Andrew, thank you. Scott May from Turf Screen answered my email and gave me his blessing on my spray. I spayed iprodione, primo, generic signature, and turf screen. I mixed in that order as well. I had my screen clog up on the 1st green. We then took the screen out and had no issues the rest of he way.

It has been raining for four straight weeks here in Korea. Today the sun cam out for the 1st time and it's going to be 90 for the next few days before it starts raining again. Yippie kye aaaaa. I'm hoping Turf screen helps keep the temperaures down so the bent can still respire and function properly in the humid heat. Don't have to worry about dry spots here during the monsoon season.

Word on the street says lots of courses are alredy losing their greens over here in Korea.

We are petty solid and I want to keep it that way.

    Brent:

First off, stop spreading rumors about other courses in your area.

The turfscreen product has helped us tremendously here. When we have high sun and dry air I'll use it twice per week on greens. Our greens really hold moisture consistently when we have a fresh app of turfscreen out. Using our TDR we can monitor the moisture levels and the greens behave as if it's a cloudy humid day. The product is removed with mowing, we've found that for us after about four days the products benefits have been reduced.

    Brent,
Same hear a lot of courses had it rough for a few weeks in June / July, I did okay with too much hand watering, and still have a few dry areas that are being repaired. I am looking at a turf screen however the restrictions on new products are too much to get any this year. So I will continue to watch my peers in the area because in the private world a few of them are using at this time.

I used turf screen last year in NJ didn't see any advantages and had plenty of clogging...this year I've used green pig from Grigg brothers and have painted the turf the jury is still out. However we don't stress our turf as most others might.

    Keith,
Turf screen is not considered a pesticide(no epa #). You should be able to use if you can get it into Japan. The US Army pest coordinator said it was ok to use.

    Dave,
I'm not spreading rumors, it's a fact. Here in Korea, it is a struggle to keep greens alive every year during June,July, and August (any cool season grass for that matter). 30-40 inches of rain comes in those months,..monsoon season. Not a good combination to have,...saturated soils with hot humid conditions. Breeds lots of fungus, not to mention on days when the sun does come out it scalds everything. Two years ago we got 74 inches in those two and 1/2 months. On days when you have a lite rain,..2 inches you still have plenty of guest trampling your greens. It's not like the states where if it rains, people stay home. If there is a frost, people still play on it. If it snows we shovel and they still play. Your greens never get a break 24/7.

It's hard to cut grass period during this time of year. 95% of the courses are built in the mountains because any flat area has a farm or highrises. With mountains, comes lots of sunlight and wind issues. Korean superintendents do not have any easy task here. I commend all Korean supers even if the greens thin a bit. It is very stressful and the worst climate I could imagine(transitional with too much rain at the worst possible time). It is a very humbling experience. Even getting equipment out to vent during this time can be difficult not to mention a day that you can spray.

This is my first year for using Turf Screen and I love it. So far Ive had to do very little hand watering on greens. Ive been spraying it on a 14 day cycle but I think a 10 day cycle is better. I spray on Fridays for the weekend. Last weekend it was 103 and didn't have to water one spot.
Since Ive had such good results on the greens I have applied it to tees, and green banks. Again wow. Holding Moister, No hot spots, and lush green turf.
I have never used the Green Pig but I do use Optimizer from Armor Tech and John Deere just came out with a pigment also..JD Tracker SPF. I love the Tracker SPF. It has more of the natural green look and it stays on longer.
I will continue to use Turf Screen on Greens and tees for the rest of the year. Ill be trying to work it into the fairway program for 2014. If I cant do the Turf Screen for fairways Ill continue to use tracker SPF.

I do have a line on it from the US and may try, It's not the US people I have to fight with it's the Japanese side they can at times be a little (XXX) about new things. I have had problems with fertilizers at times..

I know I can't say enough about Turfscreen so far this season. Granted, its been a little cooler and more moist than normal here in Western ND, but we've really cut back our watering schedule, and negated a mountain of handwatering at the same time. I'm putting less nutrients in the bi-weekly tank, and holding color and vigor for a longer period of time. It might be my imagination, or employees are doing that good of a job, but ballmark recovery seems to be enhanced, and my PGR apps seem to also be enhanced. I've struggled in the past to maintain a good 9.5-10.5 on the stimp, and this season, I'm mowing 3 times a week, rolling 4, and have a 10-11 consistently. If my labor budget and chemical budget allowed, I'd like to experiment in other locations with it. But it isn't in the cards for now. I'm curious about the long term effects of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide over a period of time, or how it affects the natural metabolic principles of the plant. But then again, I'd think the good fellas creating the substance have done this research in the past.

I know it'll be in my spray program until early September, and will use it again following Memorial day spray apps in 2014.
