   Hello:
   I wrestle with this some as of late. But I would like to hear from both sides.
   
   I have been at the same club for 15 years and the same parent company for 18. I am happy and find new ways to get excited everyday. Maybe I am just built that way. However, there are times where I wonder if I am making a mistake by staying in one place too long. In the end, I am putting myself in a position where I will not be not the one that decides whether I stay or go,to a certain degree. I know that most of the time jobs are lost to performance issues but there are also unhappy people all over the world and some are influential, so its not possible to know what is lurking out there! I read something a few years back where it stated the average superintendents stay was 8 years at a club. I know superintendents that purposely move around every 5-8 years, their reasoning, when I hear it is logical. But I am not sure it would be for me.This strategic positioning that these superintendents do ends at some point. Am I ahead of the game by finding 1 position that could be a career, or am I behind? The answer may also be neither. I would value some other opinions on this thanks........

   If it's a good stable job and you enjoy it why move on? There's something to be said for that stability for both you and your family. Your long tenure also should have help build up some stability with the members/players at your facility so that they will support you if things aren't going well on the course for some short period. Probably also have a pretty good and loyal staff if you've been there that long.
   
   Moving to another place might seem like a good idea but you never know what you might be getting in to with your new bosses or co-workers. My career moves have been mostly about getting better benefits and more stability but I'm lucky in that I'm only about 5 miles from where I started in California over 32 years ago. Unless something comes along that is just your dream job I'd stay put. These are also still tough times for many courses so stability is nice to have.

   If you're not afraid to move and your family is supportive, I say find a better job and go get it. I spent over twenty years in the service and was never in any one location longer than 4 years, needless to say, moving doesn't scare me. It's always good to get a new challenge and if you can make more money at it, mores the better.
   All that being said, I have been at this club for 10 years now and as old as I am, it's unlikely that anybody will hire me, that doesn't keep me from looking though.
