I am scheduled to gas n regrass my greens this fall and would like to hear from guys/gals that have already gone through this process.

What was your memberships level of satisfaction with the new turf?
What was your level of satisfaction with the new turf?
Would you do it again if necessary, or would you do something else?

Thanks in advance for your help

We hired a company to do soil testing in order to end up with a soil mix that met USGA Specs. We removed the top three inches and replaced that with four inches of course sand. We tested the soil after rototilling and it did meet spec. Gassing with methyl bromide is the only way to go, with Bermudagrass anyway. I have not had success with Basamid. This was three years ago and we are very happy with them.

    Things I would do differently:

I would aerify them before I opened them. I think this would help smooth them out and possibly help with the hardness of the green. They would not hold a shot the first year. I would also communicate this likelihood to the membership beforehand.

They were shocked at the appearance 2-3 weeks after grassing. "What have you done to our greens!" was the basic response. I communicate this beforehand as well.

    Andy,

We just did a gas regrass last fall and we couldn't be happier with the results. Our greens are old pushup's with about a 4-5" sand cap. Greens had different population percentages but each green was predominantly Poa. Things came in tremendously and right now with the way the weather has been, they are performing tremendously. This past weekend I had a Grounds meeting and when giving an update on the greens I told the committee that if we had our old greens right now one of two things would happen, 1.) Id have no hair 2.) Id have no job. You are more than welcome to give me a call, I'd be happy to talk with you. Come on down as well. Our club couldn't have picked a better time to take on this project. My thoughts are these types of summers are going to become more of the average and our old greens could never handle what we are seeing right now here in Chicago.

    Best Regards,
    Justin
