Recently renovated an area along side of a fairway. Put new irrigation and sprigged with bermuda, but with this stupid heat wave a drought I don't think I will get good enough coverage to open it up for play this fall. So thinking I will over-seed with rye. What would any of you suggest as far as a seeding rate. I would like to get it dense enough to be able to mow at fairway height.

    Thanks,

    Ryan,

We overseed our tees at 18#'s/m.. This is rather high, however they are extremely tight and dense throughout the winter months. We never spray out he Rye in the spring. The tees transition back to 419 just fine. Good luck!

Why wouldn't you have good coverage? Not keeping enough water on them? Are they still green? Rooting in? Pound them with some fert! You have plenty of time to get it grown in still. Just stay on top of it.

I wouldn't overseed. New turf, especially sprigs, doesn't have the carbohydrate reserves to compete come transition time. You'll probably find if you did overseed, you wouldn't have much Bermuda left come spring.

i totally agree with Andrew.....keep giving water and pound the sprigs with fert. I advise not overseeding ontop of sprigs....the super before me did that during our grow in while i was his assistant....when the spring came...we didnt have anything. You have plenty of time still to make that bermuda move!

I'd second (well third now) what Andy said. Water, water and more water with some 21-0-0 at .5# ever four days and it will come in. Bermuda loves the heat.

Easy there guys, he asked what seeding rate would be suggested, so I told him what we do on tees.
