Good morning,
My Club is currently celebrating it's 100 year anniversary. Throughout the season, there are several celebration events. The Committee is relishing the 'like it was' theme and will be having a hickory shaft event, stymie putting demonstration and even using sand mounds in place wooden tees.
I'm recommending creating a putting challenge, but on early 1900's conditions. I have a large, flat, bentgrass area that surrounding my putting green that is maintained @ 0.325. As of this morning this area is stimping 5' 3". I have a call into the USGA, but I'm wondering if anyone has found data on the earliest green speeds. So, if we have a putting contest on a surface with similar 1915 green speed, I'd like to post that speed and possibly even other well known courses and their 'old' green speeds.
I think it would be fun to have the documentation in addition to reproducing green speeds 'like it was'.
Any help would great for historical green speed and/or mowing height records..
Thanks
