We have a JD 1600 Turbo rotary mower and the middle deck is not coming on. Local dealer hasn't been much help, but we can load it on the truck and take it over to them.

Our technician has followed the service book and all codes seem to be flashing as they are suppose to be, the coils are working properly, the only thing that has been questionable is the main service module? One of the tests conducted showed it is working properly, another shows it is not. The module is over $4,000. Any suggestions? Hope I gave enough good information.

We haven't checked any hydraulics since we don't have the testers ourselves. Could a problem be there? We don't think show because it is in circuit and other hydraulics seem to be working fine.

    Thanks!

How old is this machine? I just rolled my lease over last spring and got a newer 2012 model. The decks must be lowered in a sequense to get them to turn on, ususally left, center and then right. I did have to replace the center deck magnetic sensor to cure the symptom you describe.

Michael, We got our machine in October of 2010, it was the newest model at that time. How did you troubleshoot the switch? Our guys found they had power to it, on the two wires they tested, talking with my PM mechanic, he wonders what the third wire might be for? Ours does not need to be lowered in sequence.

I have also heard different cost estimates for the control board, my PM mechanic said it was $480 something, our head mechanic said it cost $4,000. He now thinks it might be something hydraulic, but if I get the chance I might mention the magnetic sensor to our head mechanic.

    Thanks!

Yellow wire is power or from the voltage source, orange wire goes to the controller, black wire is ground. I choose the simplest culprit first and by elimination I simply replaced the sensor switch, problem solved.

Mike if I understand this correctly, you switched out the sensor switch? Was this without the testing of wires? Or did you test them first then switch out the sensor switch?

We currently don't have any in stock, but with three machines at three courses, wonder if it wouldn't be a bad investment to have one on the "shelf"? I know people don't stock parts like we used to, but I wonder if that is one worth stocking?

    Thanks!

    Yep R&R'd the switch
BTW, are you getting all three lights on the controller left, center and right?
I would still R&R the switch as a "cheap" test before declaring the controller bad. BTW I could not find technical data on just how far the switch should be installed as there a lot of threads. I measured all three and then gave it a go.
