The other day When I was topdressing I was going up a not very steep hill with the topdresser empty in 2nd high gear. I was unable to get even half way up and the workman stopped moving. I shifted to first gear and moved a little but stopped again. This was at full throttle.
Sometimes it is difficult to shift from first to second. It's a struggle to get into second gear

    Clutch issue???
The machine is 8 years old and 2600 hours.

Was the engine revving up when it stopped on the hill??

i had the pedal to the floor and no movement. The machine stayed in place. I thought i could smell some clutch, very faintly.
I checked the pedal adjustment and the clutch pedal was at the right adjustment according to the manual.

You can play with the adjustment and I would try it with about 1 to 1.5 inches of free play in the pedal. However I like to check my free play at the trans where the lever will press against the throw out bearing. As long as it is fully released it should go, if not the fiber is probably gone from the disc, and the pressure plate and flywheel probably have hot spots on them. I would check at the trans and make sure that the lever is working and moving in full motion before taking anything a part first. Going that far on a clutch repair Id replace the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, disc, pressure plate and have the flywheel resurfaced at a local machine shop.
