I have had several members stung by yellow jackets around the proshop lately. It has been the worst year for them around here. They are in some of the landscaping that is blooming. Several of my crew have been stung along with multiple players. All of the stings are unprovoked and not close to their nests. Anyone know if anything can be sprayed as a deterent or any other ideas you might have. I have never seen them this bad around here.

    Thanks,

Yellow jackets can be a real pain. Literally! If you don't know where the nest is then there are a couple of products that you can mix with food as a bait. It's been a couple of years but I think one was called "Tempo" the other "Suspend"? Anyway, a good pesticide vendor will set you up.

The yellow jackets take it back to the nest and after a little while, they are gone. I seem to remember that during certain times of the year they go for either protein or sugar, I don't remember so put out some of both. Make sure the bait is placed away from the main people gathering areas- it will attract them like crazy. Maybe on the roof of the clubhouse away from an entrance. You can place some traps next to trash cans and the like around the clubhouse to get a little control until the bait works.

    Good luck.
