I'm wondering how you guys in the Great Lakes region are finding dollar spot this year. Is it typical?
As of yet I haven't applied a fungicide on tees and fairways and have seen little to no activity. Normally I would be into my second spray by now.
    I'm somewhat baffled

    Larry,

It was so bad here in Northern Chicago area a week ago we had it in the rough, you saw those pictures posted the other day..It was crazy, had we not sprayed greens, tees, fwys I am sure it could have been awful. It has certainly been not usual weather here. Hot humid and very dry! Last week extra hot humid, mid Atlantic type weather, which is where I was raised and from, learned my skills there. We have also seen above and beyond normal bug issues, atenius beetles, sod web worms, japanese beetles adults, you name it wehave seen it, then killed it last few weeks! As far as dollar spot though we had weather change, praise the upper level and it was stopped! but one can see its trail.....not normal for here and just saw weather report going to get hot again and no rain in sight....so hold on tight! Please send down some nice Canadian cool dry at least if it must stay dry, keep it cool.....You have a good day Oh Canada!!!

    Gregg

Chicago isn't much different than Toronto. In fact what you guys have today rolls into our area about 24 hours later. We've been hot and dry with little humidity so far and it looks to continue that way. No "Canadian Cold front movin in" anytime soon

I havent seen dollar spot either. I sprayed fwys for the first time this year, yesterday. I have seen a very little dollar spot on a tee that is mainly poa. But nothing like it was last year. This time last year I had sprayed 3 times and had pythium all over the fwys. Keeping my fingers crossed that it dont happen again.

Had kind of an interesting one with dollar spot on some greens last week. We installed some bent sod (purchased from southern Ontario) this spring. Last week those new bent greens were loaded with dollar spot and none of the other greens had any. One of the greens that we patched had dollar spot on the bent patches and the poa/bent right beside it was completely clean. Have never seen that before with any of our resodding activiites.

    Larry,

I'm from the south-side of the Chicago-land area and have had a drier and hotter than normal season also. I'm throwing significantly more water than usual and just put down my 2nd Dollar spot/ Brown Patch spray for freeways and tees.

I have noticed the only time I'm seeing any significant Dollar spot is a day or two after pop up thunderstorms. This includes the tee boxes that are secluded and 2 freeways surrounded by trees.

I have picked up a mild case of dollar spot on my 1.25" cut bluegrass surrounds today, which will be sprayed on Monday PM.

We had a thunderstorm yesterday afternoon and some of the fairways and tees today looked to be covered in cotton candy. Strangely enough, it wasn't universal. It was mainly on the higher dryer fairways and tees.

Tom I've also seen the same thing you described when we have sodded some tees. It must just be that the sod tends to be a bit thatchier. I can't think of any other reason.

    Red,

Welcome to the club, we sprayed again today expecting heat and high humidity, once again here in the North side of Chicago area! It is a record breaking season here, hot humid, transition zone style weather! My home and the place (U of Maryland) where I learned my turf skills! Never ever let your head down this time of year, heat, humidity together with too much water makes nothing but trouble, add a few bad bugs (we have had atenious beetles, sod webworms, seen lots of Japanese beetles, Asiatic beetles laying grubs) and you in for some fun! The best thing is days are getting shorter and fall is coming down the road....:)
