When I read the title I thought "heck I guess this guy doesn't like to give speeches" after reading, I agree with him. I liked his ending too.

Jeff, I guess you didn't read it?

God thinks you're special, Jeff. That's all that matters.
Repeat: THINKS you're special, he's not 100% yet.

Really? He told you that? Wow.......I'll take 99.99% any day.

Mel, I read most of it, but as soon as I found out that I wasn't special, I got all teary and couldn't see the screen. I'm okay now, and I've read the entire page. I had no idea that Texas will have the fastest speed limit in the universe. But....how does that make ME special?

I have read that as well in Texas, I wonder if that should start another thread? Is it so people can get the heck out of Texas?

His speech was precedential...it was great!!!! took off the Candy coat and inspired them to pursue their Pursuit of Happiness!

    Can't drive 55? … 65? … 75? How about 85?

A stretch of Texas highway may soon be the first road in the country to have a posted 85 mph speed limit.

The Texas Department of Transportation said this week that part of a toll road being built between Austin and San Antonio will be tested to see if motorists can safely push it to 85. [size=150">WELL NO[/size">"[size=150">[u">It was designed under extremely high design parameters," Darren McDaniel, the state's Speed Management Director told WOAI radio.[/u">[/size"> ]WHAT..LIKE NASCAR?[/[/size">color]Texas and Utah are the only states with 80-mph limits on some roadways. But Texas turned heads when lawmakers gave the green light to go to 85 if needed.

[size=150">"The higher the speed limit, the more accidents there are, the more injuries and the more deaths," Jerry Johns, president of the Southwest Insurance Information Institute, told Reuters last year.[/size"> [size=200">DUH[/size">Eighty-five mph would be the second-highest posted speed limit in the world, according to the European auto rental firm Rhino Car Hire, Reuters reported. Some roads in Poland reportedly allow speeds of about 86 mph.

Texas hopes the faster toll road will help relieve one of the country's most congested interstates, between Austin and San Antonio.

"It's in a straight, flat area," TxDOT spokesman Mark Cross told Yahoo. "Safety is a priority. We want to make sure people understand that."
From Tx..........Well see how that plays out I guess.....So........ we've conserved enough fuel through more efficient engine technology etc ....that NOW we can afford to drive faster....

I thought you could drive a 100 mph on some highways in Montana................maybe I had been overserved that day and only imagined that I read that.

Years ago I seem to remember it was "reasonable and prudent". My definition of reasonable in my Toyota truck was 80. The black Porsche (at least I think it was a Porsche) that blew by me determined reasonable was well over 100 mph!

In the 50's and 60's many states had open road law (basic rule), and speed if you were under control was okay. I had an Alfa Romero sports car in High school that would do 130 and did it may times. Had a 650 Triumph that on a down grade hit 145mph. was I in control who knows, I made it, so I guess I was, kind of. Got run off the freeway doing 110 near Salem Or. by a Pick-up doing at least 130mph. Managed to get back on the road and chased him for 20 miles plus never could get a plate number. Still see the scars on my leg from the brush at that speed, no helmet back then! Now it's 55 and enjoy life. After a few years on an EMT emergency team. Speed is crazy.

    Pete,
Hey I am with you now . I got my OWN invitation to break bread with our president. For a mere $3 or whatever I can afford the letter said I could be at THE table. These dinners mean more than just a meal among friends, they represent the politics we believe in. Everyone should have a seat at the table no matter you can afford or where you come from. The other side is lining up to tear us down. Hey Petey......cya there buddy. I think this is payback from Scott.........he gave them my email address and told them I was ready to jump the fence to the progressive side.
