A little course description... we have 63 holes of very hilly terrain. Three 18 hole courses with continuous cart paths and one 9 hole course that is cart path only. The 9 holes is very very hilly. We are in year 3 of having over 2 hundred EzGo TXT gas carts. We had club cars in the past and the first 2 years with EzGo was ok, just a little getting used to them. This year is a whole new story. We have had the self-adjusting brakes not working properly and causing one side (typically the passenger side) to not adjust properly and when the brakes are applied to stop the drivers side brakes lock up and causes the cart to either fishtail and/or go sideways and flip over. Our distributor is saying that we need to test and adjust the brakes daily or weekly at the longest. According to the manufactures preventive maintenance check sheet this should be done annually. We have had more than our fair share of cart accidents since going to the EzGo's and it has become an issue. Has anybody experienced anything similar and what was the outcome?

Not sure about the EZ Go and their self-adjusting brakes, however we do check our maintenance fleet every 25hrs and adjust as needed. We run checks on all lights, parking brakes, brakes, tires for wear and PSI, and make sure all safety switches are working. This includes a quick fluid check and greasing. The guys can usually do a cart in about 15 mins, in and out of the shop.

    Regards,

The Manufacturer's Recommended interval checklist is just that, a recommendation on the time between checks. Or as I would like to say the longest you can let things wait. Seeing as you are a very hilly course I would definitely change the interval of when I check brake systems. If you are noticing that they are failing quicker, just re-work the schedule to accommodate the extra checks. Like Skip does they check every 25 hours and it only takes them about 15 minutes per cart. I know this a lot of time to you but its 15 minutes or so checking and cleaning rather than carts flipping and possible someone getting seriously hurt.

On your course you probably will find that when you remove the hubs you are going to have a lot of brake dust up in there, could be that you just need to clean this out and the self adjusters would work better. Dirt in the system is a killer!

I don't disagree with you guys. Another part I should have explained is we have 215 play carts. 90% of the fleet is out by 10am most days. I have one mechanic to do all the play cart repairs and preventative maintenance. While it may only take 15 minutes per cart, it only comes to 53.75 hours to get through the whole fleet. Not impossible but very unrealistic when you consider that doesn't include fixing anything else.

Part of my disappointment is the "only" part. We had club cars in the past and had no issues like we are observing now. It is very easy to say "you only need to do this or only do that" but it is another to say we have a problem and let's work together and solve it.

Thanks for your input. I do appreciate it.
