Can you guys help me in the process of asphalt cart path renovation. Right now I have my town's DPW restoring cart paths. Current paths are about 6 ft. They are ripping up old path with skid steer, prepping and rolling existing base. Then bringing in a HUGE 6 wheel dump truck with a spout, dump, spreading, leveling by hand then rolling. This does not seem proper as far as golf course paths go. They are tearing up the turf outside the path, etc.

    Thanks in advance

Contractor to grind them up and use spoils for base. Level base with Landscape loader/Gannon. Compact. Lay new surface. very little to haul off and minimal clean up

Looking for insight from any of you guys who have done asphalt removal from your cart paths which are inundated by roots. Rode the course with an asphalt guy yesterday and he said he didn't know how a milling machine would do on roots. He hasn't done much cartpath work, just has one of those big milling machines that you see on the highways. So, I googled asphalt planers, watched the bobcat video, and I am thinking that if this machine can tear up asphalt like it does then why wouldn't it do that to tree roots as well. Anyone have any experience with this type of work? Managment has asked me to figure out if there is some machine or way that we can just go through and tear up what we have, level and then have the paver come back. Any thoughts would help. Thanks

We had a milling machine out to work on paths as a trial. ~$2800/day and he did most of 4 holes We like it, went through roots easily, now just trying to make a decision to keep going and come back with new asphalt over the milled areas.

That's funny. We did about $100k in overlay on those paths back in 2000. We told them asphalt wasn't the way to go and that roots would continue to come through without cutting them. Sorry you are having to go through it again.

    Andy,
Just imagine 13 years more growth to the huge pines near our paths. We are also thinking of only having paths at Tees/Greens and on Par 3's. I know the milled route is not a long term fix for our situation.
