This will be my first season overseeding bermuda fairways with rye. Trying to devise a plan on how to tie in around greens. I had not intended to seed the collars but, I would like to do the bailout areas along the greensides. How do I seed them without them looking like little green semi circles. The answer seems to be to seed collars which are a mix of bermuda and zoysia. But how would I remove the rye next to bent greens.

Great question on the collars. I have the same problem. The only safe solution I know of is to sod. Please let us know if you find the answer!

Don't seed the collars, or anything within 5 feet of the greens edge. This way you have less concern with tracking seed onto the putting surface and less concern with tracking during spray out. With all the pigments out there, just paint that 5' ring bi-weekly so you don't have a dormant ring of turf. I have seen this type of seeding done many places.

Additionally, you can drop spread one pass on your collars using XL2G to prevent seed from coming up in this area and providing a barrier between the overseeded portions and the collars.

I'm going to try and piggy back this post.

I sprigged 12 acres of zoysia this summer and it is still thin.

I would like to over seed with rye but at least two people brought up
That the rye puts off a chemical that will hurt the zoysia.

Any idea? Because I will be in need of at least a couple acres of erosion control

I don't know about zoysia but I do know Dr. Brad Fresenburg has done research on this with bermuda. Might have been his doctorate. Might check with him.

Try to use something else if you can. We did this on bermudagrass five years ago (for the same reason) and are still dealing with the problems it caused. You might be alright if you stick with annual ryegrass (at very light rates) or some other weak cool-season crop.

I always had perfect definition using XL and a drop spreader. We would only overseed greens with Poa and drop the XL on the edge of the collar and the green. After playing with it I found that it was hard to see the Poa in the higher cut collar, so precision there was not a big deal. We aimed in two inches after that with the XL.
