    Steve Nelson, CGCS said: Mel, I read that article too, and although I am Republican born and raised I have always believed we should have some sort of basic national health care for those same reasons. Remove the responsibility from the employer so we can lower labor costs and be more competitive, and free employees to pursue careers that they have a passion for. I believe this would dramatically increase our national productivity.

    Now, whether or not ACA actually will accomplish this is an entirely other question.

    Gus,

    That is the big question

    Hey the Republicans back to Nixon was thinking this, I don't know why they don't take credit for it as well, and both parties work together to fix it where it benefits all the people. It is almost like they cannot allow a democratic president any kind of credit either. It was like that when First Lady Clinton had announced moving toward that and certainly if it was President Obama's idea, can't give him credit either, yet he did give credit to Gov. Romney during the campaign for Mass. program. I guess if they wouldn't let politics get in the way of things, maybe something that works would get done.

    Gentlemen;

    Don't kid yourself. Nixon had a great health policy for the country. Senator Ted Kennedy admitted he was the one that blocked it because Nixon was a Republican. Kennedy stated it was the worst mistake he ever made. I got news for you, it wasn't the first mistake he ever made and maybe not the worst.

    It still boils down to this entire thing being put together by politico types and their staffs. Commission doctors from all phases of medicine to head up a group with the specific goal of coming up with something that works! Haven't we seen enough examples of government messing up everything it touches when it comes to things that experts in the economy could solve? It is just like the senates immigration bill. No ICE agents or anyone in the business of border enforcement had input ,instead most of it was crafted by lawyers from groups like La Raza, hardly a main stream group and government staffers. Why do we keep thinking that people that for the most part have never held anything related to a normal job and have only worked off of other peoples money their entire careers, have the expertise to develop these things? Let's put together gold ribbon panels of experts in various fields to do the heavy lifting and provide congress with workable plans. How many times do we need to make the same mistakes?

    My understanding with the ACA, they did have medical professionals in on the crafting of it, of course they had insurance companies as well, hospitals, maybe the only ones not represented (and this is a guess) was the manufactures of medical equipment sense that stuff will have taxes on it to help pay for the program. (I see spell check is still not working, glad my phone knows how to spell.) I'm sure all groups tried to protect their own interests while still(?) providing for a better health care system?
