    Hello all,

If you were developing a facility, or realized at the last moment you had an overage on a sod delivery and wished to create a nursery green, where would you locate it and why?

    Thanks in advance,

    Ian Murray

as close to the maintenance shop as reasonable...easier to keep an eye on and presumably would be the first place you go when you need sod to repair an area

Another option is around or near the driving range it can be multi purpose in its use...The idea is near irrigation already in place so one doesnt have to go to unreasonable work to install a decent water management around the green. Near the range gives you ability to allow golfers to use it for practice and you to have it when needed. Multi purpose....

I would have it in a location that is easily accessible, close to an irrigation source, out of the view of the golfers, and as a last resort, where ever you can put it. Accessibility for obvious reasons. Close to an irrigation source for obvious reasons. Out of the view of the golfers because I do not want the golfers to see a green that has stripped sod and plugs.

Thanks all. We had a rolled sod project where excess was ordered (better than running short). We had created a green outside the shop area before we get to debris pile areas, etc. My rationale was we could tap into our irrigation near our washpad, and the mechanic could observe a cut as it is close by. Has some opposing opinion from peers, but I though my decision was best, and pulled the trigger. -Ian

Full sunlight / south facing slope / well drained / irrigation access / close to shop / out of sight (golfers & vandals). these are a few of my favourite things ...

Sounds like you made a good rational decision Ian. There will always be detractors, second guessers, and "Devil's Advocates" out there. These people often aren't in a position to make these decisions, so their criticisms are their only means of making them feel important. What these folks need to hear is: "It's easier to be Critical than Correct"

I just built a nursery this spring. We built it near the driving range and clubhouse for multi purpose green. We currently have 1 putting green with no area to chip from. So the new nursery is going to be used as a chipping green
also. I also built a practice bunker next to the nursery so that can be used as practice. We currently don't have a practice bunker. Members go to 9 green trap and use that.

Sure by the shop, out of play would be the best area but not in my case.
