The Harrison Bay Eagle Cam Project is up and live on the web at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org/.

We started this project to allow viewers to witness the nesting habits and routines of a pair of Bald Eagles that built a nest on our golf course last year. We also hope to continue to show how golf courses can be a great environment for wildlife. The website is in its beginning stages and we will be working on it over the next few weeks to get it the way we want it.

At this time of year the eagles only come into the nest on a regular basis around 7:00 AM Eastern Time and stay for about 30-45 minutes. Last year we believe the female laid her eggs at the end of January at which time she stayed on the nest for the remainder of the season. This year we will know for sure.

You can catch up on the progress by visiting the eagle cam blog at http://www.hbspeaglecam.blogspot.com/

    Hope everyone enjoys.

This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. How did you get the cams up there without getting attacked by the eagles?

Paul- you do realize that this makes you a grandpa in waiting, don't you ? I had the cam on for quite a while during mid day yesterday and I noticed several times where Eloise appeared to be nestling in like she wanted to get more comfortable. I just had a feeling we might see an egg before the day was over. Congrats on this venture !

It is with much sadness that I report the loss of both eggs from the 2012 nesting attempt. The first egg was removed from the nest on Friday morning 3/16 and the second egg hatched that evening at 7:20 PM did not survive the night and was removed from the nest on Saturday morning.

I am grateful for all the support and encouragement we have received on this project and hope to continue it next year, hopefully with a better result. Both eagles are still in the area and there is every indication they will return next year. I did not know until we lost our eggs that only 30% of the eggs which are laid actually make it to fledging stage. I suppose we were lucky last year with two eggs hatching and fledging so maybe better luck next year.

Sad news Paul, thank you for the update. So the eagles only lay eggs basically the one time per year? Would be curious to hear more about eagle biology.

Here hoping for a better 2013.

Paul- I was in and out of the website Friday night and Saturday morning following the happenings in the nest. I know how much work you put into this project and can't wait until next year. Seeing the empty nest is very saddening. Best of luck with the other projects at Harrison Bay !

    Mel,

Female eagles are only fertile for 14-17 days per year. If they loose an egg early in the nesting process they might try to lay more to make up but we are out of the window for this year.

    Thanks,
    PLC

Thanks Paul for that information, I never knew that, no wonder the eagles where on the endangered list. (I will have to remember this for the politics forum when we want to discuss the importance of the EPA).

Best of luck to the eagles for the rest of this year and hoping they are successful next mating season.

Great News from the Harrison Bay Eagle Cam for 2013.

Eloise laid an egg this afternoon around 4:30 PM. She laid her first egg in the 2012 season on Feb. 11 and her second one on Feb. 14.

Follow all the action of the nesting season at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org

Hope to have footage and still shots of the egg laying event up on the website in the morning.

Thanks to everyone who have supported and funded the project.

After tending to the two eggs for 35 days Elliott and Eloise, along with all the viewers, are anxiously anticipating the arrival of their new eaglets starting tomorrow March 17th. Both Elliott and Eloise have been very diligent parents sitting on the eggs through bitter cold, constant rain, and wind storms that make some viewers of the website feel ill.

A special thanks to USGA for funding the Harrison Bay Eagle Cam Project and we hope everyone enjoys the show. Since the eggs were not successful last year we are praying for a better result this year. If you are interested in viewing the nest you can do so at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org/

Darn the camera was off air when I just checked it.

Saw on our local news last night there is an Eagle camera on an Ozarks lake and they had a hatching yesterday.

It has been two weeks since the eaglets have hatched at The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay and my how they have grown. They are moving out of the egg bowl and exploring their world in the top of the tree. So great to watch them spread their wings and look around. Below is a video from this past week showing them feeding.

We are so very grateful to all our sponsors, especially the USGA, for making this project a reality. We were also thrilled this past week when Charter Communication installed high speed cable internet which has made the video stream smoother and clearer. If you haven't seen the eaglets at Harrison Bay, we welcome you to come watch them grow up. We have about 7-8 more weeks before they take flight.

    Watch them at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org

Neat feeding video, glad they are doing so well. Reminds me somewhat of the baby chick our son had for about 12 days for a bio class project. The chick imprinted on Nick and although we were sad to turn her back in, she didn't want to be put in the box with the other chicks, we knew with our other school activities keeping her wouldn't have been easy.

    Thanks again for the updates!

The Harrison Bay Eagle Cam is back up and running this year.

Eloise and Elliott have two eggs. The first laid on the evening of 2/4 and the second on the evening of 2/7.

Thanks to the USGA we were able to install a new pan/tilt/zoom camera this year along with a microphone and infrared lighting for night vision.

You can watch all the action at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org

    NEW EAGLETS HAVE ARRIVED!!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know that two new eaglets (HB5 and HB6) have been hatched at The Bear Trace at Harrison Bay over the weekend. You can watch all the action of their growing up and hopefully fledging at http://www.harrisonbayeaglecam.org. There are several You Tube videos of the hatching and feedings today by searching Harrison Bay Eagles on You Tube. Sorry I do not know how to put links on the Forum. If someone will tell me I can load up some of the better ones.

Hope everyone will continue watching the project.
