We have a Campbell Scientific weather station, that is solar powered, wireless and tied into Toro Site pro and T weather. For the past few months we have been having issues with the rain data it sends to T Weather. It will show anywhere from 2 -160 inches of rain about every night. This happens all the time, no rain days, rain days, days we run irrigation and days there is no irrigation running.

I have replaced the battery, and checked to make sure no irrigation is going into it. The solar panel is in full sun all day. We unhooked the rain gauge and it still sends data that we are getting rain. My local Toro distributer sent it back to Campbell Scientific and they could find nothing wrong with it. So we put it back up and it worked for about five days then started having the same issue.

Any ideas on what this might be?
    thanks
    Tim

    Tim,

We have a weather station and a rain can. Our rain can is doing the same thing. I have isolated to the wiring from the satellite but during the process I have found insects and birds tipping the gauge. We ended up taping a bunch of roofing nails around the top of the can(s) to detour birds from landing on the top of them and subsequently leading to false tips. I know, probably not much help, considering we are still dealing with similar issues, but it may be worth a shot putting the nails around the edge of your bucket.

Let us know if you find out what the issue actually is....

We used wire ties on a weather station at some research plots to deter birds. Drill a holes near the top of the rain bucket and loop the ties through the bucket.

Call Bruce Smith or Bart Neff at Campbell Scientific directly. (435) 753-2342. Both have been excellent resources for us with our weather stations.

My only problem with many years of Campbell scientific was do to birds.
