I am currently being scalded (I am hoping to keep it below $80,000) by the Florida DEP for arsenic levels in soil and water resulting from MSMA use. In the course of their testing they determined that 98-99% of the arsenic present is in an organic form. Organic arsenic is not carcinogenic, it is 500x less toxic than inorganic arsenic and is not considered by the FDA when considering arsenic levels in food. It [u">is[/u"> included by the FDEP for water and soil. They are also holding me to the drinking water standard of 10ppb. Consumer Reports Magazine published an article recently where they found many juices having inorganic arsenic levels over 10ppb and some up to 50ppb. The FDA said these levels were "of concern", but did not exclude the products from being sold (to children who devour the stuff). My levels would be WAY under 10ppb if they excluded the organic arsenic.
I have been in this business since the 70's. The environment manure hit the fan in the 80's. It seems that everyone wanted to leave it up the the superintendents, manufacturers and distributors to raise funding, direct research and fight the political battle. Is there any point in time where the legislators, owners and golfers might be directed to participate!
