Just started a new season with new bed-knives, sharpened reels on our John Deere 3225C Fairway Mower. We took it out to test and now the reels are bouncing like there is very little down pressure. Acts like it is marcelling. Any one have any ideas. We did put a new lift cylinder on it also. Help please.

There is an optional Hydraulic down pressure kit you can purchase for these machines to add more down pressure. It goes under the seat and will need a hydraulic pressure gauge to properly set it. I can't remember how much they are but I order it on all the machines. The other thing to look at is if the bedknife is too thick it will drag on the surface causing that same look. So I would make sure you have the right bedknife for the height as well. The only other thing you can do to check the amount of down pressure is get a scale and measure the weight of the cutting unit by itself and then attach it to the machine and check the weight again with the cutting units down. That will tell you the amount of down pressure on the cutting unit. Hope this helps.

Thanks Stephen. I will check all of that out. Another thing I am going to check is the attack angle. This goes along with your bedknive idea. Since we take them apart in the winter they could have been put back in the wrong roller holes.
