    If anyone is running Microsoft XP what are you doing tomorrow when the plug gets pulled on the support? Toro NSN sent out an email Friday saying do not use the internet period!! This is the only computer I have and an upgrade wasn't in the budget this year.

    Input?

    Thanks

    I use some legacy software on a virtual machine to run windows 2000 on a Mac Pro computer (parallels allows multiple operating systems to be installed and to run simultaneously). I never touch the internet from the Windows virtual machine. I believe you can setup a virtual Windows 7 machine in Windows XP

    The alternative is to purchase some other device for browsing the internet - probably a good idea anyway. A tablet or iPad will work great. Browsing the internet with an irrigation computer has always sounded risky to me.

    At home, we will look at what to do, and I probably will stay off the internet with that unit until we replace the software or replace the unit. I will probably surf using my iPad mini, and will have to fight my wife and son for time on the laptop.

    I still have XP at work on both my working unit and the irrigation computer, the irrigation computer is getting replaced, haven't heard about the XP on this unit I regularly use. Our mechanic has had 7 on his machine, since they switched his unit out a couple of years ago; don't know if they will switch me out or not.

    Replaced ten year oldDell laptop with a new Lenovo with Windows 8.1. A little struggle going from XP but not that bad.

    Thats interesting....I have yet to see an email, snail mail, phone call, text, smoke signal, etc... from them about this. I've got one computer still running XP on our Site Pro with NSN on-call support.

    I saw on Saturday on my home computer when I turned it on, a pop up came up and told me the Microsoft was not supporting XP as of April 8th? I have not seen that on my work computer or the irrigation computer. Although I don't remember when I last restarted my work computer, but I think it reboots every Sunday, where as the irrigation computer was restarted on April 2nd after an update.

    I have heard on the internet before that this was going to happen, but you can't trust everything you see on the internet, right?

    the replacement I found was;
    Ubuntu software - especially for older models (mine is a Gateway laptop)

    I am really excited using this software - no worry on virus definitions as it replaces Windows XP
    there is a microsoft office version called -LibreOffice Writer and Calc (Word and Excel)

    The irrigation computer is XP and not connected to the Internet. We have always had the irrigation system not connected to the internet and my office computer will be upgraded once it dies. No problem using XP for now. At home I am running Windows 7 and have no problems using XP or Windows 7. Don't waste your money on Windows 8. It sucks

    My wife agrees with you there on Windows 8.

    Thanks for the info Ken; I think that is what we will do with our downstairs computer. Did all of your documents and pictures transfer over?

    Of course the big deal is I hate to spend money for anything important. Now for band, drum line and golf stuff, I spend like a drunken sailor..... (Sorry to all you Navy and Coast Guard guys).

    Getting ready for our trip to Dayton! Despite getting bumped a class, watch out for the Poo! Go Kickapoo Winter Percussion!
