While watching Sunday evening with Tiger way left, I think on his second hole, he sent Joe LaCava (hopefully I spelled that correctly) up to the green to get a yardage, or that is what it sounded like by one of the announcers, not sure if it was Faldo or Baker-Finch. I heard the statement about, he wished the golfers just carried a range finder, he "paints" the flag stick, gets a yardage and plays the shot. "It would speed up play on tour".

As I thought about it, I had a couple of reasons to not agree. One then everyone does it and it will slow down play for regular golfers, (not that it doesn't happen now), and two, is it really giving the golfer the true picture of the shot? And for the money these guys play for....

I don't think Tiger could have even seen the pin with the range finder with the big tree in the way, but it also doesn't tell him how much green he has to work with, what is the yardage to the front, the back etc. I would think a pin placement sheet and yardage book would be a much better tool. The golfer knows if they can bump it in short of the hole, or green even, or what kind of carry they need to have, along with some "safe" spots. Really the beauty of the game, the options we have to play certain shots. (not that I can play them, but I do like to think about it.....of course everyone playing behind me at a chapter meeting now knows why I'm so slow?)

Just wonder what everyone else thinks.

    Mel,
Are you playing slow golf at the meetings cause you play Military golf. Hit it right, hit it left, hit it in the bunkers and once in a while hit it straight. The times I play slow are when I shank left, right and shank it several times in the bunkers. Never could shank it into the hole though. Those are the days I feel like building my handicap up. lol   Just having some fun with you Mel.

Alberto, I know your having fun with me, and now that I try to have more fun when playing and not taking it so seriously I've actually played a little better.

Since I bought my new woods last summer I've been hitting them straighter, even my 3-wood, and here I thought I would miss my little persimmon, (although I have fond memories of the last good shot with it). I still haven't got my irons from the year before dialed in quite yet (like Tiger, although in San Diego he seemed to have fixed that problem from inside 150), I think that is more from getting another year older, those muscles take at least 9 holes to loosen up now. I take too much time talking myself into hitting the right club, just like those guys on tour, except, I don't listen to what my caddy tells me.

That's cool. When are you arriving to San Diego. Maybe we can meet up for a drink. Peter can pay for it. I fired my caddy cause he told me to hit a soft 7 and I want to hit a hard 9. I should have hit the pitching wedge from 150 yards out. When I switched from Yonex to Titleist, my game got way better. Now with my sciatica acting up, after playing a few weeks ago, I'm back on the Disabled List. See you in Diego.

Sounds good, but we would have to hit Pete up before he plays golf with Captain Kirk, as I hear the good captain always beats Pete out of his nickle?

Pete will gladly buy each of you a drink. He'll be in San Diego. You just have to find him. He won't be using the Captain's former nickel, though.

I got Pete's number. We'll find him. I know he will be at the USS Midway on Wednesday evening.

Take your range finders with you! Pete can be very stealthy when he needs to be.

    Sandy,

Not trying to steal this thread but speaking of stealthy, any chance "Gumby" will be making an appearance? I have yet to see him in person.

Gary steal this thread? Heck I don't think there was anything to steal since nobody commented on my first question. I do have to thank Sandy for at least introducing "range finders" back into the thread.
