Would like to get a overhead pic of the entire golf course. Is the good ole fashioned aerial photographer in a plane still considered the best way to do this? Im needing to map out warm season grass in the predominately cool season rough. Thought by chance some of you techies might have some input here.

And if any of you have any experience in eradicating zoysia from fescue/bluegrass rough that would be helpful as well.
    thanks

We use both Google Maps and an option on our property appraiser website. In the past, when construction was booming, we would fly over monthly with a helicopter. The fee was $250/hour and that's about all it took.

Not that this is going to help, but check out an article a few months ago in the Green Section Record online by Jim Moore about golf course photography using kites. Your situation would be perfect. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

I've used Google earth in the past. We have been spraying a few fairway to clean bermuda out of zoysia. We had a great view one spring which showed how clean the areas were that we sprayed vs the other half of the fairway that was not sprayed.

Try this http://www.acme.com/planimeter/ not only just an aerial photograph, but you can also click points to measure areas also.

We had a member's son use his electric helicopter to do this vid for us. Not very expensive and can also do high quality photos.

Very nice Ed. My mechanic is into RC planes and we've talked about doing something similar. He liked the video a lot.

Hi Red, yes it's amazing what the copter will do in talented hands. The young man has gone on to do other clubs and lots of expensive real estate in the Muskokas. Reggie won our Seniors shooting par and didn't complain about the greens at all!..ed

Very nice work. My mechanic is getting into radio controlled planes and helicopters and he actually has some cameras for his equipment. Thanks for opening up this subject. I would have never thought about bringing this up to him.
