Any thoughts on this product? GenNext there is A&B and C&D material. Price is reasonable. How does it compare to Redox, Griggs or Floratine?

    Thanks

We used A&B last year with great results. A lot less disease pressure with no preventative sprays, and a huge reduction in poa.
We did use high rates on our #1 green though, since that particular green was around 70-80% poa. By the end of last season it was <25% poa and the bent was thriving.

Prior to that we were using Anderson's products with a lot of preventative apps.

Ummm, They seem to have a blogspot that everything is redirected to, but I can't find a company website with any info.
95 percent poa to 95 percent bent in one year seems pretty optimistic

Tim Fleegel who used to be a regular on here is now a salesman for GenNext tfleegel@gennextcomplete.com. The success stories the product is having at some pretty high profile clubs is pretty incredible. Has peaked my interest to say the least.

I had a good look at the reference material on the website along with some other data Tim sent along. The trials certainly look promising.
It started me wondering about research in general carried out at Universities. Every study we see these days, generally has a sponsor. Any online or sit down seminar always have sponsors.
Are universities still doing basic research on turf or do they only do it based on the money coming from sponsors and does that allow the sponsor to shape the research to increase their sales?
I have always been very impressed by Griggs and how they teamed up with Roch at Nebraska and more recently the study out of Ireland on michrodokium(sp) In the Irish study it showed that PK Plus had some incredible results in suppressing fusarium...and I think that is great for us and Griggs. What you seldom see addressed is how do the raw ingredients work in the same situation. Is it the formulation of PK Plus that has the secret remedy or is it one of the constituents in the product that has the suppression effect. It's likely a bit of both but we don't know this
I guess it's a bit of a catch 22 in that without the universities getting funding they can't undertake studies but are we as supers getting the basic science or just a sales pitch
I suppose in a perfect world universities would carry out raw science without the need for sponsors, but that might just get us into an argument about capitalism vs socialism and at this hour of the morning I don't really want to go head to head with Dmac etal...especially on a the Turf Forum

    Red,

You've hit the nail on the head for the most part as I understand it. With what involvement I've had with the University of Missouri, to help fund their programs, the researchers seek out sponsorships if that is the best way to call it, and conduct research for them. The researchers will report the facts, I'm sure the manufacturer will set the parameters of the research, with probably the manufacturer's main concern; will their product work as advertised.

The researches also will hopefully get research dollars and suggestions from the end users, superintendents for example, this will help fund their program as well, it also provides us with research we can use.

I don't know about other schools, but MU with cutbacks, really looks to industry to help provide even basic funding such as money for staff. In the turf and ornamental industry that is tough, as we don't have lots of extra money, and we are also a fragmented industry with many different chapters and organizations in each category of the industry. And of course each one of these groups are hammering the vendors and suppliers too.

We also in Missouri don't have check off systems like Corn, Soybean and others, that can help funnel money to the university for research, that's why I think the Rounds4Research could be a great tool if the local chapters get on board.

I would be interested if other states have been able to develop check off programs to help fund turf and ornamental research programs.

    Thanks, Mel

In regard to Poa populations, wide swings in the percentage of bent and Poa is natural so I would caution getting too giddy at this point. I was in a seminar a few years ago I think with Rossi, but it could have been Vargas, and one of them indicated that a green can easily transition from 75% Poa in the spring to 25% in the fall and over and over again through the years. This has been my observation too. Take it with a grain of salt.

Regarding pink snow mold suppression, the research ndicates phosphites again are effective. PK plus contains phosphites, correct? I've noticed a marked decrease in almost all disease pressure through the dedicated use of the phosphite containing TKO by Growth Products. Same concept.

PK Plus is definitely a phosphite Ron, but like I say the seminar I watched only tested the Griggs Product and therefore I can't necessarily make the assumption that they all work the same. I think they should but I don't know.

On the Poa fluctuation summer/fall was the fact that in one of the studies on the site showed a comparison between product usage and control. The control showed clearly the fall rebound of poa where the treated area showed a continued decline. I found that interesting

On a slightly different notion...I have a buddy who believes that there are many cures for cancer out there that Big Pharma is suppressing because they are not patentable. I always say to him that if they are a cure for cancer, why wouldn't a University be doing double blind studies to prove it...they'd make a killing. He blames Big Pharma for buying off the Universities to ignore it. I would hope that researchers would have an open mind about everything but as Mel states, the Universities are all begging for money

We have refrained as a company from commenting on forums in GCSAA or TurfNet about our products. We feel it's an area for Superintendents and Turf professionals to log in and talk about the issues of the day and products they have experienced or heard about in an open format. But we wanted to address the issue of the website in particular.

We are striving to bring our website live in a format that is informational and will help people understand our product lines and the benefits we create to overall turf quality. When we put our plans together to introduce out products we had been planned for a Feb 2013 introduction at the GCSAA National show.

An article in Superintendent Magazine the addition of clients like San Francisco Golf Club, The Presidio, The Peninsula Club, TPC Courses, The Classic at Maddens, The Dallas Cowboys practice facility, Cheyenne Country Club, Medinah (not #3), Kemper, Palmer and Casper courses all combined to create a situation where we accelerated production, added great staff (Tim Fleegel) and fell far behind on website development.

The site will be up in the coming weeks please accept our apologies for falling behind on this important task.
