This photo was taken in Central Florida. Do you know what kind of snake this is? As an FYI, it was caught and released unharmed.

Looks like a rat snake here in Spain, I have a 1.25 meter skin near my desk to chagrin of my Andalusian wife ( bad luck ). It looks a bit poorly fed though.

Not sure. Tickle its nose and see if it bites you. That would narrow it down to aggressive, or non-aggressive.

Most venomous snakes in this area do not have round eyes and their eyes are normally in dark to black colored areas. I am thinking rat snake.

All snakes bite. I am just curious as to whether or not it has fangs and injects deadly venom. I found pictures of Copperheads and that could certainly be it.

If we didn't have snakes we would have wall-to-wall rats.

Almost certain that is a copperhead. We had a bunch of those around growing up in East Tennessee. Very poisonous as i'm sure you know though.

copper head. I'd loan you my great gran daddy's H&R .410 but you're too far away. The sharp end of a shovel will do but be careful.

Looks like a Canebrake Rattlesnake to me, Scott, from its markings. Last time I saw one of those, it was in Lake City, and shortly thereafter, it had no head....

    Wags,

Where in Lake City did you see one of those? I'm glad I wasn't in the same spot, although if I was he would have still had a head because I would have been running the other way.

Mel- it was crossing the parking lot in the long condemed Foundation Hall Dorm, headed to the airport property. Think I was pretty drunk at the time, and fearless. It seemed to have a pinkish shade to him, which was not visible in Scott's photo. Growing up in NY, I also had my share of copperheads, so those guys could be right. Just a thought on the CaneBrake. Hope all is well with you, Mel.

I luckily wasn't on that side of the building when he was there. I remember they condemned the 2nd floor of Foundation my 2nd year. I remember well trying to sleep with the C-130's just sitting out there testing there engines, I remember when the wind was a certain direction we almost couldn't hear Ed Combest during class.

    Those were the days.

Things are good, well except for you all beating my brains in our fantasy leagues.

We have tons of rattlesnakes including 4 different kinds. We either encourage them back into the brush or bushes or capture them in a large plastic container and move them to a location safer for the golfer and the snake. Like Scott said, if we killed them, we would have an epidemic of rodents. Mel, you don't need to run from snakes, they won't chase you! We recently had an article in the paper reporting rattlesnake bites this year and the experts concern that the toxin is becoming more dangerous. They don't know if this is an evolution thing or something the snake does naturally due to availability of food. Doesn't matter if it is a copperhead, rattlesnake, black mamba or cobra, just don't get bit! The average snake bite is on the hand of a drunk or near drunk male. It must be kind of like golf. You take your clubs out of your car and put your brain where the clubs were. With snakes it must be some weird desire to touch or play with them.

How long does a snake live? He has to be long since dead by now.
