"Rocks" in Greens Cancel The title field is required!

   We aerified our two year old USGA greens last week. In the process we had tines become clogged with rocks. We were aerifying to a four inch depth. Some of the rocks apparently contained iron as they were attracted to a magnet. Some did not. Have you seen this before?

   That is the question Mike. One response I have received is that ferrous bacteria could be causing the ions to come together. I have sent water, soil and the "rock" samples in to be analyzed. There were no rocks in the soil mix when we planted the greens.

   Did you get your sprigs from somewhere in South Georgia? If so, the rocks are naturally occurring and came in with the sprigs. We see them everytime we sprig a new green with TifDwarf from farms in South Georgia, specifically near Adel, Georgia. They get picked up with the sprigs and delivered to you.
   
   We sprigged a putting green two weeks ago and saw the same thing. I will try to post a picture for you tomorrow.

   Thank you Andy. Your response was right on the money as usual. It reminds me of that scene in "Sling Blade" where the guy troubleshoots the piece of equipment, "It ain't got no gas in it!"

   I have not actually tried, but sounds like a good job for the new guy!
