Has anyone used a Dakota 410 Cart Mount Topdresser for fertilizer application? I currently have a Turfco 1530 (tow behind) that is being traded in, and I also have a Lely that is facing the recycling center (yes, our recycler takes rust), and was wondering if anyone has had success with accurate fertilizer application with this unit.

I would be more willing to put the fertilizer into a new Lely that is disposable after a few years than into a $25,000 topdresser and cart that I'd probably have for quite some time. Just not sure I'd want the rust and corrosion on such a valuable piece of equipment.

Thank you for your input, but corrosion resistance is not what I asked about in my post.

All of my fairways and roughs are fertilized with my Toro Workman mounted Dakota. I have no problems and the speed is great.

I understand that. My response is coming from a guy that has three Workman mounted Vicons that are rusted through after 6 years. All they are used for is fertilizing around houses where we can not get a tractor and Lely. That's about $90,000 heading to the scrap yard. Since you have the option and experience using the Lely on your golf course, I would suggest you would look into that. It's was just a suggestion.

And yes, you can sling fert with the topdresser. We do it all the time. But, our units are on a four year lease, so I don't care what shape they are in when they go back. If you are in the same boat, go for it. If not, and you are owning the topdresser and cart, then my advice is to also purchase a Lely.

They make a different set of spinners strictly for fertilizer(at least when we bought our 410 mounted they did), we have used in the past but not on regular basis. Though I would have no problem using on tees, fairways and roughs. We have used the Lely for sake of not having to switch over 410 just to fert. We have the other spinners and they throw fine pattern wise etc.
