Went to a seminar which had a presentation featuring Worm Power a nutrient rich extraction made from worm poop. Reading the articles so far point to a nice addition to our spray program. Has anyone had any experience with this material on poa/bent greens?

Hello Ed, check out this website from a company in Winnipeg, eco-tea.ca has been producing an aerated tea product for golf courses and farms from worm castings and other ingredients and is a good product. I could provide you with a couple of supers who are using it religiously and have had pretty substantial root development from the product.

I tried Worm Power last summer here in Oklahoma. I will tell you that it is a staple in my spray program now. I started spraying it toward the end of July and made 3 apps at 8oz/M two weeks apart through August. Before I started spraying it I took a plug out of one of our greens so I could compare later. The results were great. We didn't grow long roots during that time but our density got a lot better. Plus you don't have to worry about burn. Very safe product and it's cheap. I mix it in every two weeks with my other soil program from May to Oct.

I tried it a few times last year in my soil program and have committed to using it again this season. I watched a webinar back in February and was very impressed with the research and information. I think you can find the webinar on the GCSAA site if you go to past webinars. I'm going at 4 oz/m every two weeks. I believe the higher 6-8 oz rate is targeted more for thatch control and the 3-4 oz rate is more for increased root development.

Been using Worm Power since grow in and now on fairways. Root mass and depth unlike any other "new" product. Certainly a believer, here.

Can anyone point me in the direction of peer reviewed research that has been performed with the product specifically on warm season turf? I checked the website and couldn't find anything on turf. Would like to read up on it because all I have seen is anecdotal evidence of it's success with no proof to back it up. The theory and science make sense, but I need more data and proof to start using it in my program.

Andy-Test it on your turf. Sometimes "data" is skewed to how they want you to see it. I have never seen rootmass like we have now. The only change in the program is WormPower. This seems to be very consistent with what others are experiencing.

    Anthony,

Who are you getting this from. Local Distributor?

Getting what from? My comments are from my own testing and experience.

I totally get the skewed data, hence the ask for peer reviewed research. Peer reviewed typically is under greater scrutiny than self-published literature.

I once tried a new product for nematode control in early summer. I was amazed that counts went down. Turns out weather has a big role in this but the company was touting it was their product. So, I am a little hesitant to try new products without actual data to back it up.

    Keith,
    I order from Trigon Turf.

Andy-I tend to value peer review more than "University Data or testing." I think the testing is more real life and is a better representation of what Superintendents deal with. I've used your suggestions, in fact. :D

Going to start using Worm Power as well - have just heard too much positive remarks from a variety of sources. Still debating though as to apply every two weeks (best for roots) or monthly (best for thatch control)?
Any issues with mixing with other products (wetting agents, fertilizers)?

Chris, we go Monthly here. We have fantastic roots and we always apply with wetting agent sprays. This year we have included DMIs that were to be watered in as well. No issues, they said early on not to mix with fungicides, but have since changed their stance and anything is fine with it. Great product and we have seen great gains with regards to rooting, jury is still out on thatch control though.
