(The Message Bible) Stay calm; mind your own business; do your own job. You've heard all this from us before, but a reminder never hurts. We want you living in a way that will command the respect of outsiders, not lying around sponging off your friends.

This Bible Verse was used as an example of what is wrong with the Occupy Protesters in a different thread. This is a comment from Paul in a letter to the Thessalonians on how they should live. In the same book you have Timothy traveling around checking on others, so this sentiment was not aimed at Timothy. Paul was certainly not keeping to himself and minding his own business. Different people have different jobs to do.

That makes about as much sense as this bible verse:

    Luke 14:26

26‘Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple.

It makes perfect sense to me. I do not have what it takes to achieve this level of devotion right now, but I can still be a Christian.

That's utter nonsense. Does this passage make sense to you, too? Ask your wife how she feels about the words of your holy book.

    1 Corinthians chapter 14:

As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

My wife would have preferred reading the previous chapter: 1 Corinthians 13, The Love Chapter. There is no doubt that women are expected to assume a more submissive role than their husbands in the Christian Faith. I am single now and the women I meet all seem to want to be supported and protected. I know not all women are this way, but how many men do you suppose date with this goal in mind? I would guess not very many.

Nice to be able to pick and choose, isn't it?

Steve, it comes down to the fact that back in the day they didn't have a warehouse full of editors to go through each verse to make sure the continuity was correct
In this day and age when one composes a novel. they do

No, Lar..it has to do with the fact that in spite of its literary value, the bible was not written by god, but by men from a long, long time ago. It contradicts itself constantly and if you actually read it, you might come to the conclusion that the deity depicted in it is quite a nasty fellow.

    Regards,

    Steve
