Not sure if I'm in the right forum for this, but .... I have an opportunity to do some consulting work pertaining to construction and post construction maintenance of a large sportsfield project.
I've been asked as I am Thee local authority in our isolated region on these sort of things as the local "Greenkeeper". I have quite a bit of experience building and maintaining golf courses and know I can provide valuable information and guideance to this group who are Not short on "cash flow"
I'm just not sure of and curious what fees for this sort of work are typical ...

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated

Ask what you would pay i.e. USGA for the day?

Remember the report you write will take some time, that is not on the time card for your visit. So get paid for it.

Both good points Keith. I had definately factored in the time spent on reports and developing fertility, cultivation etc ... plans. A fair hourly rate that reflects market value for professional consultation is what I'm curious about.
If I recall, the USGA charges around a grand for a day visit and report?

USGA is $3,000 - $3,500 for a full day visit.

Do it for free, especially if it is for a youth sports field. Maybe the guys with no shortage of cash flow will hire you.

Thanks Wally ... This is the sort of information I'm looking for. Better yet, anyone (Superintendents) who may have been in the same position and put a price on their services.
I'm all for helping those in need ... I actually do free consulting of this sort for a remote volunteer run golf course on an adjoining island, but this project is an entirely different "kettle of fish"

    Hello Gerry,

I have worked with many football clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United, the Millenium Stadium, etc. If you are talking infrastructure advice, grow-in , and then continuing maintenance procedures, this is not a short term involvement.

I would look for monthly payments in the aforementioned 3000-3500 range for the duration of your work with them. Good advice during this period can save 10 to 100 times the fee never mind the suffering.

    Wembley is a perfect example.

    Saludos Michael

Thank you Michael. I was thinking about an hourly wage for specific services rendered as a lawyer would charge, but a monthly / annual salary may be simpler for them for budgetary / accounting reasons ... straight line, confirmed expense line. The amount is of course negotiable depending on level of involvement .. reports, # of planned visits, reports etc ... , but I like this from both ends sake .. Thanks again

    Gerry
