Anyone have experience with a fine cut flail? Specifically the attachment for the front of a Jac Turfcat. My experience with flails has always been a good way to literally beat grass down. I am intrigued with the play on words of "fine cut". How does it compare to a rotary? The salesman says it has near reel cut appearance. I also want to ask, if the cut is good, does it undulate very well? I would think similar to a reel unit where you have a narrow cutting point it would undulate fairly well front to back. Thanks in advance

I used a fine cut Toro flail in Indonesia, I was El Toro Zoysia and I must say it worked great for rough at 35mm but at fairway cut about 14mm not so well, the units were to wide and often damaged anything that was not flat ground. If someone would make a 30" flail unit gang and high speed rpm it would I am sure work well. 15 years ago it did take a lot of maintenance to keep the cut even one day would take the edge off. I had a staff for over 100 for 18 holes so labor was not a problem in or out of the shop.

I've used an Alamo (PTO driven) fine cut flail mower in the past. We used it primarily for periodic mowing of out of play "native areas". I was pleased with its performance.

The fine cut option knives did leave a more preferred "finished" appearance, however, I would not go so far as to say "reel cut" quality.

The lighter gauge knives proved more fragile, and needed replacement more frequently, than the heavier duty "regular cut" knife option.
