I am having trouble controlling clover in Meyers Zoysia. I can knock it back but always comes back. Any suggestions?
    Thanks Pat in TN

Make sure that you add some type of surfactant to help the 2-4-D stick to the clover. I would be careful spraying if it is semi-dormant. I usually spray my zoysia in February with the high rates here in SE Missouri.

    Pat,

Perhaps the best and safest product for clover control (zoysia or any other grass I am familiar with) is MCPP. It is an old product. Most 3-way mixes have some MCPP in them. I have not seen any injury spraying 3-way products on Meyer zoysia any time of year. That does not mean it can't happen and perhaps someone has seen damage from spraying this time of year. 2,4-D alone is not very good for clover control but MCPP alone is very good. However you may have some other winter broadleaf weed that MCPP is weak on, therefore a 3-way mix is probably your best option.

    Pat,

When I was managing fine fescue/colonial bentgrass fairways and tees, clover was our only real issue. With the sensitivity of the fescue to pretty much any chemistry I found the safest and most effective product was dicamba. I used a product called Sterling, sprayed at 8 oz/ac. Initially we were forced to make a 2-3 apps but once we had it under control one app was enough. Don't expect it to check out overnight but it will work.

I have used Manor to control clover in Zoysiagrass. You will start seeing the clover get unhappy within a couple days, but it took a while to take it out. I would say it worked well though.

Not sure, but wouldn't Lontrel be safe? I've never had to use it on Zoysia, but have on other turf.
