to spray a threeway for weeds in a cool season grass climate , not including spraying in snow, on leaves etc.? Our leaves are completely cleaned up and the weather is calling for daytime highs of 10C (50F) over the next couple of weeks with frost each night,

Larry we discussed this recently. I had a couple of ppt slides. Did not know how to post them here. Copied them onto word and tried to attach them. Basically, pretty surprising results with late fall broadleaf applications. Kenneth Ingram, UMD

I add three-way to my snowmold sprays every fall on Fairways, approaches and tees after we close.
I don't have to spray for weeds again in season on those surfaces. Further reduction in golfer/chemical contact and reduced time spent on the rig in season.
I have been doing this for 10 years with no negative effects.

I have seen good control spraying in Sept and Oct, but haven't sprayed as late as November before, I have been out with us getting into the 60's last week and today, glad to see it should work for me?

    Thanks Kenneth!

I see someone said they do it with threeway but I was thinking about using Lontrel because it's what I have in the shed. Anyone see a problem with this?

We've had great success on our course with late fall applications of any herbicide for dandelion, clover or thistle control. Was told by one of my mentors that the idea is after the first really hard frost the weeds begin to store carbohydrates in the root system so by applying herbicide after that ,the plant is taking in the herbicide and trans-locating it right to the root system. Products we have sprayed with this timing has been Premium 3 Way, Lontrol, or a Premium 3 Way/Mecoprop mix.

Time to find out if it is ever too late. I sprayed Lontrel today in Western NY. It was 62 degrees and supposed to be warm tomorrow too. This was with my Snowmold spray. I'm curious to see if I have any weeds next year. I will try to remember to post next year to let you all know what happened.

This has not been a typical fall or winter so far for me but it has given me the opportunity to look at my weeds that I tried to kill in mid november in western NY. I have to say the results are astonishing. It would appear that I'm approaching 100% control of all broadleaf weeds on my fairways. I love the idea of doing this in the future. I will update again in the spring.

In case anyone is still curious about this post I will post an update. Spring is emerging here and it is early. Usually I don't see 70's until at least late April but the last 2 days hit 70. I've checked on the weeds and it would appear that the lontrel worked on most things. I did see some mouse ear chickweed that is live and well but it's not on the label and other than that everything else is gone. I was trying to kill clover and it was extremely effective. It also would appear that all dandelions are dead and gone. I'm not sure if I would do this again or not but I would certainly think about it.
