    Just curious,
How do you store your equipment keys at your shop?
a.) Leave keys in the equipment
b.) Hang keys up on a labeled board
c.) Store keys in a locked box
There is a +/- for each of those options IMO, so I'm just curious on what everyone else is doing.
    Thanks!

Leave them in the equipment, except the equipment left outside.

We started with keys in the box. After constant replacement of lost keys, we finally realized they weren't lost, just everyone was hanging on to them. Now pretty much everyone has their own keys.

We use to leave them in equipment until some 11 year olds broke in and stole them only to return the next couple of days trying to play bumper cars in my shop with the equipment.
Now they all get locked up

thanks for all the responses everyone!! I haven't decided what to do, everyone has valid points, there is no clear cut best practice, IMO.

US Army so all locked up in a key box 100% we have to sign out every key and sign back in same. Did not like the system, but now it is not bad and we have never lost a key. 8 years!

Keys in equipment if stored inside. Otherwise key is brought in and hung on key board in shop. Our shop is alarmed, so I have no worries about someone playing bumper cars with equipment. There are 2 different gates to go through as well.

For the equipment stored in the shop they are left in the cart or mower. Also glued into the key switch to keep them from taking them out to keep someone from using "thier" cart. All other company vehicles and heavier equipment left outside is kept in a lock box. 2 boxes are kept, 1 in the equipment managers office and 1 in the office managers office.
I know the key glued into the switch seems excessive but we were replacing about 5 keys a week because someone took it home or it just got lost. You do have to becareful gluing the keys in also.

Inside they are left in the machine unless it is being repaired and then it's pulled and locked in the mechanics desk, which I don't even have a key for.

Outside they are pulled and put in key box in my office.
