    Been working on our golf carts. Until this year it has been assigned by the GM & his staff. He is fed up with the corrosion and failure of the original cables after 3 years. We have just made 135 cables and I suspect we are not done yet. Since we have never done this before how much time should I plan to schedule for cart maintenance. Right now I will have to hire someone for this position. I run with part time guys and my mechanic for the course won't be back until May 1st.

    Any suggestions? My GM believes we should not have to put any effort into these carts since the last lease had very little electrical issues until we were at the end of our 5 year lease as the batteries wore out...

    I have now termed this as GCF (Golf Cart Fiasco)

    We had to replace all after 3 years, Never seen this before, Club Car has gone down hill some what. We have a great maintenance program cars are very clean.

    We had to replace all the battery caps on our club cars this past season (warranty) due to leaks that increased corrosion.
    you must be prepared to rinse the cart batteries down with a baking soda solution at least once a week while the water levels are checked and a daily rinse of water will help as well. Cable ends will continue to need attention and the post nuts need to be checked for tight its just the way its been here as well.(2011 Club Car Precedent) We have an employee run the maint. on these scheduled for 3 days per week and the normal cart guys rinse the pack and check the cables on every cart before it goes out but we will still get an occasional call about a downed cart on the course

    We had similar issues several years ago with leaky vent caps on batteries causing the corrosion problems. We do a monthly service which includes baking soda wash, water level check and checking all cable connections. Assistant mechanic spends about 15-20 hours month doing cart service on 80 carts.

    Thanks Guys,

    We had our local battery distributor come in and give us a run down. The cart attendants were doing Ok but we will need to do better. He did give us a 16 page battery maintenance procedure which will be helpful to get things started. The hours you have projected are much less that what we figured it is probably because we are starting behind the count.
