This photo was taken at the Oceanside CC in 1965. The occasion was the Daytona Beach Seabreeze HS graduation.

Coach Mike Smith, head coach of the Falcons recently said this this was his favorite band, or what the band became in 1969. I am going to go with that is a drum stick and not a cig.

My guess....since I've been to the grave of the one brother in Macon, Georgia as well as the grave of the namesake of one of their song titles which is a few headstones down, along the river. I won't say the name of the band, but do listen to them quite regularly.

We have a winner. Can you say right to left which one passed?

My guess are the two in the middle. Of course, this was the very early years, before they become what they are now. Hard to tell without the facial hair.

Had to go look that one up, was second guessing myself. I'd say second from left, black guitar.

Yes, that is him. Another clue: Rolling Stone once rated him the #2 guitarist of all time, second to Jimi Hendrix.

And yet another clue, a grocery chain based out of Florida used one of their songs for most of their commercials.

That is not the bass player in the original band, but the bass player who was died two blocks away in another accident.

Hence the second guess and subsequent research. Had to get my timeline right.

The Maynard, Duane, Bob & Greg Band! WooHoo! What did I win? Just kidding. It's ZZ Top....from the very, very early years.

The little chick in all white up front looks pretty Sweet. If her name's Melissa, then I think I might know the name of this band.

I only brought this up because a friend scanned and sent some pics that he found at his house. Plus I grew up in that area and worked my way through high school and college at Oceanside CC.

Live at the Fillmore East, September 23, 1970

    Pete,

Sometimes the mind works in strange ways. Never been a big fan of the band but once saw Dickie Betts live at MSU along the banks of the Red Cedar River. That's probably where I actually heard most of this music. Those were the days!!!!
