Looking to purchase a set of some two-way radios for myself and staff. Was wondering what models others have had some success with? My course is very hilly and full of trees which I know limits the ability of some radios. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I can tell you what not to get and thats whatever radios wal-mart and best buy sell. I tried the cheaper route with them and encountered numerous issues. I'd say spend some extra money on some good stuff.

I've had an Alinco DJ-V17 for well over 5 years now. It works very well and has a lot of available settings for various situations. It has an LED display and is programmable from the keypad. I use it to not only communicate with the staff radios but to also control the irrigation system. I also programmed in the frequency for the National Weather Service to listen to weather forecasts. I got the radio via an internet search and contacted the closest distributor.

I believe that the DJ-V17 model has been replaced with a newer version. I have both Motorola and Icon radios as well and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Alinco to replace any of our current radios.

Correction: Model still available. Here's link to their web page:

Try contacting a local "Ham Radio Club" they probably will know what will work for you.

For $125.00 the Dj17 is well worth it!

Thanks for the feedback! I've done some research on the Alinco brand and it looks like that would be worth trying out. Is there a website to order them online or do you have to find a local dealership?

Here's the Alinco page with the dealer websites. You can order online from many of them.

If you can find a dealer close to your location, they may be able to help with setup if needed. Otherwise you could always find a local amateur radio club that could help as well.
