    They all suck.

That being said, we've gotten the best luck out of the older Shindaiwa stick edgers. They feel heavier than others, but have lasted the longest for us, which is about 6 years now. We also have some Stihl edgers, but have had typical issues after a few years.

With the emission standards, manufacturers are switching to four stroke. This has been nothing but problems for us when mixed with Ethanol. Lots of ring issues and fouled plugs. Recently picked up some two stroke Shindaiwa edgers, the 242 model, and so far, so good after about a year, no issues.

These are used for edging beds, cart paths and bunkers. Some run 40 hours a week, non-stop.

We have over 100 pieces of 2 cycle equipment. We've tried them all. None of them hold up very well. But, I can deffinately say Stihl and Red Max stand behind their warranty. Haven't had to use the warranty for the Shindaiwa.

I'll second Andy with the Shindaiwa products. Ours run like a champ and my Sthil and Redmax spit an sputter. We recently changed to the Red Armor mix oil from RedMax that has an additive to deal with the Ethanol in the fuel. We have seen better results across the board since the switch.

On the fuel side, you could always look at adding a product such as SeaFoam to the gas before mixing the oil to help deal with the ethanol.

On a side note, we use a weed trimmer for almost all of our detail work on the golf course. The only thing the stick edger is used for is to edge our greens to keep the 419/common Bermuda from encroaching to the TifEagle.

Good luck with your stick edger.
