I have new board members and they want me to give them a spray schedule for greens, tees and fairways.
I can give them a general schedule but they want dates. They don't believe that weather and other factors
affect things. Does anyone else have to give specific timing and dates.

    Thanks,

    Rich,

I'm like you I can give approximate dates, and I can give rain dates for aeration, but when I use tools like the 200 gdd model for Primo, watch weather to take advantage of rain or to avoid it, wind days it doesn't work.

Ask them if they can give you the dates it's going to rain over the summer and then you can give them the dates you are going to spray.

The only other option is to ask for a maintenance morning or day. And say you plan to use that window to make applications if weather conditions allow it.

    Good luck!

Give them the dates you want and then spray when you have to. Believe me, they aren't paying that much attention. You do what you can and then you do what you must.

Weather: sun, frost, wind, heat, frost, snow and more go into any program I have a program but is and can only be a part of a good IMP program. I will not spray if I do not need to and I will spray more if needed.
Bankers don't grow grass, but you do. let them know that.

I just went through this at our golf course. We had a golfer complain about us spraying last year. So this year we are closing the course on Tuesday mornings to spray greens. We are also going to close a 9 down each time we spray fairways. Not sure how it will work because we have never done this in the past. It's hard to give specific dates because there are so many variables. It's a tough situation because you want to respect the wishes of the board member, but we also have a job to do and sometimes that requires us to change on a moments notice. Good luck!

Thank you for your replies. Forty years as a supt. and this is a first for me. I'll show these to my
greens chairman and he will help me push what we have to do through.

I think your experience should prove that you know what the heck you are doing and you spray when you need to, not when the calendar says to.

We plan to spray greens every Monday; one week "wet spray" washed in and next week "dry spray" let dry on plant. Every Tuesday we alternate spray either f-ways or tees. For the most part we try to stick with the plan. It is not always possible due to weather (wind or rain) if disease pressure is low we may only use lowest label rate or even a portion of that.
For us the bulk of our nutrition goes out through the nozzles so keeping on track keeps our yield very predictable and consistent.
The operations staff has become accustom to this and have been unknowingly been"trained" so if a group wants a modified start on those mornings they are quick to see if possible. We always do anything they need but it sure is nice be asked vs. being told. They have also come to notice our topdressing and mowing schedules and often ask if they can help by removing tee markers the night before we mow and or spray tees. With that said I think we all are creatures of habit, and others will become part of program which has been helpful for us.

The main thing to bring to their attention is that it is your pesticide license that is being used and the Lable is the law and you can be penalized for breaking the law. simply show them a few lables with the areas of interest highlighted. That should be all you need.

Just go ahead and give them what they ask for, but title it as Proposed.

Remind them that Mother Nature is ultimately in charge, we are just here to help!! We are not magicians but good stewards of the environment and their property! No way to predict when to spray plant protectants and follow IPM practices.
