Im a superindent in NJ and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. I'm wondering if anybody has experience with Underhill Precision sprinkler nozzles for Rain Bird 900. I have single row irrigation system about 15 years old on fairways and I'd like to enhance what I have in addition to expanding a little. R&R sells the nozzles about a buck or two more expensive in catolog. I did the math already but did anybody see improvements or difference in performance of sprinklers? Thank you for your input

I would normally be glad to help, but I'm a 49ers fan.

Actually, I know nothing about those nozzles, so couldn't help anyway.

Pete, might want to keep quiet on that one right now!!

Hello Thomas, I checked into Underhill nozzles a few weeks ago with a nationally known irrigation specialist and he had nothing but full support for Underhill. He said all experiences well worth the investment which comes back in irrigation savings within several years.

I am from NJ and a Notre Dame fan. Joe Montana was a couple of years after me. Dave Casper was there with me.

These guys played near Pete. We were on our front and back end of the 88 game UCLA winning streak with Austin Carr and Adrian Dantley. I saw Bill Walton cover half the court with three strides and the alley oop at ND.

    They were the days.

    Saludos Michael

Gary, I heard maybe a couple stars are coming off the injured reserve list soon. Oh, wait. That was the parole list. Nevermind.

FedEx field has boxes of them sitting behind their end zone, oh wait, you probably wouldn't know where that is.

I'm pretty sure Cowboys fans know where FedEx Field is.

Yes, the field. No, the endzone.

Pete, I'm pretty sure San Quentin will have a really good team these next few years. :D

So that was you standing next to the Governor?

I've tried a couple but without doing an irrigation audit, and comparing with new OEM nozzles, I won't comment. They have to work better then 15 year old nozzles, but when I have switched, I can't notice a different visually.

    Thomas,

I live in Oregon but I will always be from Chicago, and a Bears fan.

I have used Underhill nozzles for years. I replace our Rainbird Eagle 700 heads with these at first sign of trouble. I switched all green and tee heads over to Underhill and we corrected a lot of problems. This is high desert so right now all the problems show up. I would give Underhill a try. You can also get them from sportsturfirrigation.com if you want to compare costs.

They are complete junk if you are trying to re-nozzle Rainbird 51 DRS.

The spreader or drive nozzle on the Underhills are not offset enough to make the impact arm drive the head so the end result is no rotation. I let the manufacturer know about it but of course it was the usually, "we've never heard of that problem before."

If you look at an Underhill drive nozzle and a 51 dr drive nozzle together you will see the original Rainbird is machined slightly offset so that the impact arm is hit in the right spot and the heads turn. We tried everything to make the Underhill work because we are in need of new drive nozzles. Fortunately I was able to buy up all of the remaining 51 dr range nozzles. If anyone has any drive nozzles for 51's they want to part with send me a note.
