Anyone have any tricks for cleaning sprayer tanks and booms that are stained from years of dye and iron?

Also, the concrete around our mix tanks is stained from iron. Any ideas for cleaning it up?

    Thanks

Clorox worked well for our sprayers. Not sure if this was safe, however It cleaned them up like new and had not issues afterwards.

I dilute tank cleaner (powder) into a spray bottle. Apply to the sprayer and scrub. Follow with pressure washer. This was on our "used" sprayer we purchased with 500hrs on it. Daily cleaning is the key to keeping the stains away.

miratic acid...i mix a 50/50 water/acid solution in a spray bottle, spray it on, let it sit for a minute, wash it off...then put some armor all on the hoses and boom. You wont beleive how well it works

you can run it through the tank too, wont hurt anything. just make sure to wash it out good

Chalk me up for the muriatic acid 50/50.

But dont forget the insides are as important as the outsides...

On the newer Toros with a drain valve in the back left of the unit I've found if you don't drain it every time your done spraying it will clog. As product does settle in there.

Is muriatic acid available at the hardware store?

I have bought it at the hardware store before. I think most are made from citric acids?

Muriatic acid is HCL (hydrochloric acid), has no citric in it. Your local pool supply store probably has it on the shelf.

We stumbled upon a Lawson product...keynote... A heavy duty cleaner. Makes the outsides look showroom.

our well pumps on the golf course seize up every 3 months or so because of calcium buildup. So we pull them and dump strait miratic in them...completely cleans them out, makes them run like new again

Would it be safe to run the muriatic acid through your whole sprayer?

Muriatic Acid also works well on slow draining urinals. Pour some acid in it, cover it in a trash bag and seal until the next day. Then flush away.

Don't think I would try it James. It will etch and start to oxidize any raw steel in there. The outside is ok because you can protect it after you finish with some WD or similar. I do have a little surface rust here and there on some hardware and fittings, but nothing like you deal with in humidity.

When they are new, or very well cleaned, we then spray them with a product called midnight Black. It's a wheel dressing from Zep products, and we use it like Armor-all. We will dilute it 30% product 70% water and spray everything down, then when done spraying the residue just rinses right off, and we do it all over again. You can mix it as thick or thin as you like, and the thicker the better job of shining and protection it does.

ive been running miratic acid through the spray rig once a month or so, not strait but i put half a bottle in and put in 10 gallons of water and let it run through the pumps for about 10 minutes, then spray it out through the nozzels, and then I just run water through it a couple of times. Ill take oxidized steel over a gunked up rig.

I use a product called "wolf trax" to stain my sprayer.

Oops, I thought the title was "staining cleaned sprayers". My mistake, sorry.
