On June 25th I had sprayed Surge at 1.2 oz./M in my roughs up to the fairway cut around my greens which is about 15-20ft/ for clover. Within 30 mins. we had a 30 min. unexpected pop up shower and I had feared it had washed it off the leaf blade. Within a couple of days it was evident that I did get the kill on the clover. I am afraid to say that we have volunteers that mow the greens on the little 9-hole and about 4 days later I started noticing browning and thinning of the greens almost resembling anthracnose. However, it was in straight lines almost the width of a single triplex reel or a sprayer overlap. I triple check all my chemical amounts before adding to sprayer and my records indicate my last appl. on the greens on was Revolution with Pantea Organic Matter and watered in for 20 min This was two weeks before symptoms showed up and have never had any problem in this appl. My last split appl. appl. of Dimension at 1/2, rate, watered in for 20 min., was the 1st week of June with no symptoms at all. I also have a designated sprayer for greens and one for fairways and roughs. I am assuming that the triplex mower came through the sprayed rough the next morning in the dew and with the reels raised the tires were clean by the time they hit the green but the reels contacted the rough and carried it onto the green surface. My samples I have taken out of the affected area show I have roots down at least 8 inches but the leaf blades are browning out. I still have a few white adventurous roots in the thatch layer and below that some browning of the roots but not black but a little brown. I am sending putting greens cup size samples in Mon. for analysis but has anyone had the terrible experience of herbicide tracking onto greens and what was the result? I always tell my mowers to either stay in the fairway when roughs are sprayed and etc. to prevent this from happening. I am afraid this older volunteer did not adhere to this and came through the roughs onto the greens. Would punching with solid tines help to get air and open the canopy a tad or is the damage already done and just have to wait it out. Any advice will be appreciated. I could not be there for that mowing as I was getting my wife out of the hospital but word was given the day of the spraying to stay out of the roughs and mount the greens thru the fairways until we could get enough water down, which I thought had happened with the rain right after the spraying. I know the use of volunteers is risky to say the least but I was told this practice was going to stay in place for the summer above my objections. It will kill the old man mowing if he finds out that he did this to the greens. Sorry this is so long but you guys are the best at what we do and any experience or advice is appreciated so much.

I hope you have had good fortune since you posted, but this makes my stomach turn when I think I about this. We have had this occur twice with the same herbicide, but the circumstances leading up to each were different on Crenshaw bentgrass. We spray Monument in our bermuda rough for POST control of weeds in June/July. The first time occurred when the 2nd Asst. loaded a tank on the course next to a green and forgot to turn off the switch for the booms and swept the green as he drove away when he turned on the main switch. This summer was particularly hot and by the time we caught it, that grass was smoked. We ended up sodding it. After 5 years, you can no longer tell where the sod line is.
The second time it happened was 2 years ago while I was spraying Monument 60 ft above a green, also in June. I had sprayed above that green for 6 years without a hitch, but never any closer being wary of the lateral movement capability. Unfortunately, we had a pop-up shower the same afternoon that dropped 3 inches of rain in 30 min. I was spraying greens two weeks later and noticed some yellowing patterns beginning at the edge and moving across the front of the green. I knew right then and there what app had caused it. We needle-tined the front of the green and sprayed activated charcoal to remove any residual AI that could possibly be there. We watered it down with a hose after the app. It turned some really sick colors over the course of the next month, but we babied it along with NatureSafe 8-3-5, Sea Kelp apps, regular and needed fungicide apps and another couple of needle-tines. Miraculously, it made it through the summer. Each time I checked samples , I was encouraged by any root growth activity. Best of luck and I hope for the best that can be.

Joshua Styles, I want to thank you very much for your reply. I had hoped for some info or at least a "sorry about that, I hope the best for you", but not a single word. It has come out of it a tad, not really noticeable, but a golden color. Nobody has mentioned it and all think the greens look and play great.
I guess you and I both know that sickening stomach feeling all too well and are taking great measures to insure this type of thing never happens again. I have been in this business since 1978 and still have a lot to learn and something new always seems to broaden my knowledge and experience. I wish the best for you and thank you again for responding to my post. All is well for the moment, but tomorrow is another day. Thanks again.
    Mark.
