    Long time CA Superintendent Howard Fisher Jr. CGCS passed away at 81. A great guy that was a friend to everyone and an excellent golfer. Howard won many Senior titles in the tournament at my cost. He was a great putter with the worst stroke you ever saw. A true loss to our profession. He also boasted that while at the San Diego Navel Base courses the base Commanding Officer told him he had to play golf with all the visiting Admirals and Generals. Hows that for a gig?

    Corey;

    I played golf with Howard and as you say he was an excellent golfer.

    I don't remember the date or the golf course but I do remember that you, Howard and I played together in a GCSAA tournament. You and Howard were needling each other the entire round. It was fun to watch and he edged you out in the gross division and I did just beat you in the net division. Your 1 iron let you down that day.

    Fond memories. You gents from CA are a different breed and I must say a lot of fun.

    Thanks for the word Corey. Sad news, they don't come any nicer than Howard. Always a smile and a kind word. Howard always had great stories. He will be missed.

    Howard was a friend as a fellow super and after retirement he would come down, visit and play a time or two a year. Always a gentleman and yes, a very fine golfer. Sad to hear because he was always so healthy. Expected Howard to live to be at least 100. All of us who had the opportunity to know him will truly miss him.

    To all,

    Had the pleasure to meet Howard several times when I became involved in my local chapter many years ago. Truly one of the nicest guys out there and always willing to help out us "younger" guys? Last saw him at a chapter event several years ago and was still nice as ever. Heard a few months ago that he was having health issues and sad to hear of his passing a few weeks ago. RIP.

    I was thinking of that round when I posted but was not sure it was you with us. Howard never met a new person that was not his friend. I fyou remember he had the Lee Traveno attitude towards golf. You might be having a better day but he could talk you out of the match.
