I am in the Northeast. With the unseasonablly warm weather we are having, who is appliying pre-emergent early? I think the phenology is just after forsythia blooms and just before lilac bushes bloom. That would be now. But this seems VERY early. I am will be using dimension so some post control with take place.

In the same respect, who is applying ABW and summer patch early?

I just finished mine on Friday A month ahead of time, just like the forsythia blooms and the cherry trees in Washington. I expect some post control needed in the fall. Now, will this warm winter make the grub control earlier? already starting my broad leaf apps this week. Strange weather.

It is an early spring for sure....I'm Tx NW panhandle...very much the transition zone...We've had high temps...peak at 5pm to 86 degree's.The next day a low of 23. Really watching my soil temps and micro bursts of high temps also. I'm checking at the 2" and 4" depth too. I've decided to push my Bentgrass w/a sprayable ammoniacal at 1/10th lb/1000/m called "Get Green", just to get them out of domancy because here the Bent gos dormant. I wanna have some good growth before aerification and to potentially compete if I have a Crab breakthrough earlier. I will use "Anderson's" 9-0-18w/Dithiopyr, full rate if temps allow it, for the exact reason you are. It has post emergent properties too. If I do have some breakthrough, I'll follow up with "Quiclorac 75%" at 7 oz/m. Use flooding nozzles at 40psi, to just cover the leaf surface. then see what happens. I've used Quinclorac before with NO adverse effects on Bentgrass.

Robert are you adding any MSO in with the quinclorac at that rate?

We saw active dollar spot on bentgrass fways and tees last week in Washington, DC. Incredible. Some clubs sprayed. I have not seen a crabgrass seedling yet. Freeze warning here Monday night. Kenneth Ingram, UMD.

With Spring being earlier than normal in most parts, I like to use Growing Degree days and personally checking soil temperatures for any of that stuff. To me the forsythia blooming is just an indication that soil temps are somewhere in the 50's.

I was always taught that soil temps in the 50's for 3 days and nights and it was time to spray. It seems very early but I didn't want to miss the first crop of crabgrass, now I have to worry about the second.

No sir for the fact I didnt want to make it too hot. I'm just wanting it to effect the crab. You could try it,but IMO,it worked just fine as a stand alone.

No signs of Crabgrass in NW Missouri...Preemergent was put down 2nd week in March. Did have pythium damping off on new seeded bentgrass. Way to early to spray banol.
Quinclorac on bentgrass???? Not greens right??? I had a problem with goose and crab last year in greens...Any suggestions??? Bensemec or Dimension.

Why wouldn't you add MSO? Seems like cheap insurance to me, and you can usually go at lower rate with great results too. When spraying any herbicide I like to add some type of spreader/sticker at the very least and a bit of cheap Urea to the tank as well. Quinclorac is completely safe on Bentgrass tees and fairways, but with split applications 7 to 10 days apart. I don't remember the rates check the label but it was safe on our Bentgrass/Poa fairways and they are mowed below a half inch.

If it makes you guys feel better, the Crabgrass never went away in my yard. I've got full blown plants that mow up tight at 1". Helps my neighbor out too as it fills in all his bare areas. Also seeing some nice Goosegrass popping up already and can't wait to start spoon feeding the Ammonium Sulfate to see how big I can get them. A few years back, I had a plant that was so big I was shaping it up with hedge trimmers. This was next to the ornamental Dogfennel that was close to 6' tall. Can't wait until it starts blooming in the fall, makes for a good show.

Do you need a judge? I can sit and drink beer and watch those things grow.....that's if you are buying.
