I'm curious about other poeple in this business and what the biggest frustrations are for other turf managers. Please feel free to leave comments about what they are and feel free to elaborate as much or as little as you like.

I have several, but the biggest one after going through a renovation this past summer has got to be truck drivers. Nothing against the profession, but I had to have the dumbest ones delivering to me this past summer. Not remembering where to dump (even though they dumped in the same place the day before), failing to follow directions by not dumping in the middle of the road like the other 200 piles, blind as a bat and couldn't see the ticket mailbox that had a bright orange cone next to it in the middle of an open field, not washing out their trucks before loading it with greens mix resulting in half a load of rock with it, leaking hydraulic oil all over a newly paved asphalt road, calling me at 4:00am asking where to dump, driving to the completely wrong city then calling me for directions, running things over, driving aimlessly around a neighborhood even though they had my number, backing into things, not delivering for three days then all of a sudden sending 25 trucks at the same time and lastly, take a shower once in a while, please.

Reminds me of that old gym commercial - "I pick things up, I put them down".

At the end of my working days with the City it was:

Letting non-golf people make all of the decisions about how to operate a golf course. This includes both maintenance and the golf shops. Why have staff who have been in the business for 30-40 years if you don't want to listen to their input and expertise?

    1. That golfers expect a discount all the time.
    2. Permit Holders that don't pay for range balls and play warm up holes and confuse our mowers.
    3. Too much rain.
    4. Not enough rain.
    5. Irrigation in general.
    6. How the golf shop has a knack with a 27 hole golf course to start more golfers on the 9 we ask them not to rather than the ones we are not working on.
    7. The "single parade" on a nice fall afternoon. Get some friends people!

    1/ The Pro Shop
6/ The people who occupy it
2/ The 9 expensive shirts ordered but never delivered
4/ The contempt shown by the occupiers towards the "real golf course employees"
4/ The inability of the occupiers to coordinate a back 9 vs front 9 start
6/ Members who complain that the course is too wet and then complain about all the dry burnt out thin areas

Great stuff Andy. Tell them FOB means "Fetch-it On Back" if they don't do as told. Kenneth Ingram, UMD
