Ive had a tru turf roller for a few months now. Its a great machine especially with the spiker attachment but has anyone had issues with burn outs with stopping and changing directions. We idol it down and at times that helps but its almost impossible to keep from burning out, no matter how careful the operator is. How do you keep from burning out?

Besides doing a smooth transition from one direction to the other, are you making sure the drive roller is always on the down slope side of the green? The unit is made to push uphill, not pull itself uphill.

In those situations where its unavoidable and the unit has to pull itself uphill I like to tap the drive petal to get myself going or at least until I'm back on a flat area. Kinda acts like traction control. And usually the drive roller stays pretty clean but if it isn't that is not helping your cause either. Make sure its fairly clean after each green.

I have two truturf rollers, and yes, they are good machines. However, the operators can burn the turf out by stopping on the surface, changing directions to quickly, bad angles, etc. Gotta be careful with them-I thought I would be relying on them to skip mow days in the dog days of summer, but they are aggressive enough that I often limit their use in extreme heat. Excellect light weight roller during aerification events, tourney setup, normal weather patterns, but you have to be careful. Curious if this is a general statement, or if different rollers see better results...

Virgil we had a similar problem with a brand new tru turf 5 years ago. One direction on the unit was all or nothing, there was no feathering the drive roller and if you slowly got off the pedal as you were getting to the edge of the green it would abruptly stop and damage green. Thought it was my operators but it ended up being a problem internally in the transmission case of the unit. Had to demand my distributor open the unit up and when they did they found a problem and it was replaced. We still get the odd scar but that's due to the operator being a little careless.
