For those of you who are regular fliers with your golf clubs. I am trying to decide which is best. Either to ship my clubs to San Diego or ship them out Fed EX. The cost for fed ex from Missouri is 70.00 one way. I just did not know how much of a hassle it was taking them with you on the plane. The airline will charge 35.00 for a second checked bag.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Toby,

each airline might be different so you might check with who your flying with, might be on their website. From my understanding, (not from actually flying with them in years), golf clubs usually are special type luggage and is charged differently from regular luggage. So it might be more the $35 dollars for that second bag if it's golf clubs.

Definitely check with you airline, but most just consider the clubs as a regular piece of checked luggage. Use a travel bag and keep it under 50 lbs.

What Jeff said. Use or borrow a travel case and a lightweight bag.

    Toby,

A few years ago I played in Palm Springs with GCSAA and I shipped my clubs from Needham, MA to Palm Springs,CA. We have a UPS store in Needham and I think the cost was $150 or $160 round trip. Boston to Palm Springs.

I did not want the hassle with the golf clubs and I was not concerned about the price. I landed at Salt Lake City - changed planes to Palm Springs. My golf clubs were there a couple days before I arrived.

What was weird, I went to the room after the tournament to ship my clubs back and I was told I had to pay to ship them. I informed the people I already paid. No dice - I am pretty sure they said they are not UPS people and they are working for a percentage or extra pay - but clubs are shipped by UPS. I really can't remember - I'll wager GCSAA could explain it.

Anyway, I went to the Captain or whomever at the hotel office, showed him my receipt I already paid and he printed a tag with my address and said UPS will pick up the clubs first thing in the morning. I tipped the guy $10.00 and away I went. The clubs arrived at my home three days later.

I shipped them home one year and it took almost two weeks to get them. I found out that it is indeed done by an outside contractor that uses UPS for the final shipping. The clubs must have sat around some where for days before being picked up.

    Corey,

maybe they liked the looks of your clubs and decided to demo them?
