Built 11 sudo-pushup greens 8 years ago. We basically blended, 50/50, topsoil & sand and built the greens to allow for surface drainage over the entire area of the green. Seeded to Penn Cross and hammer them with paclobutrazol to keep the poa out. So far so good. Have a couple greens that have some minor poa, maybe 5%. No problems to speak of other than the Penn Cross gets grainy from time to time. As for specs, I am unaware of specs. Let your mind wander.

    Larry

I have had push up greens made of everything from cotton mulch/topsoil mix to sand/topsoil/soil blend. They all work it just takes different management inputs based on rainfall, pH, turf type etc.... The key with pushups is surface drainage, as long as the water can get off you really don't have to worry too much.

There really are not specs that I know of, as long as the growing medium allows you to produce a surface it's all good.

The new Coore and Crenshaw course called Trinity Forest in Dallas is being built on push up greens.

Built one california-style and one push-up with locally sourced and blended topsoil + brewers waste in the last 14 years here. They both do fine, though the push-up is more resilient and less prone to big swings in soil moisture deficits. If we do anymore, they'll be push-up just for their resiliency -- and what Clay and Darren said about surface drainage -- same.

We built one last year. Soil sucks, but the bent is fantastic. Feel free to visit if you'd like
