Wondering if anyone has successfully added a par 3 course to an existing course. Was limited space an issue or not?

    Thanks

    Scott,

At a course I was at previously they added a 9-hole par 3 course along the edge of the existing course that was pretty nice. It was only about 14-15 acres and I think the longest hole was maybe 130-140 yards long. There are even a couple of ponds, one at one edge and one on the course. It's a great facility for beginners and kids. They used to do junior golf camps out there and the pros could just walk between the holes while 40 or so kids were out there playing. It was fun and also brought in some decent revenue. We maintained it with two staff who even walk mowed the greens.

One was added here before I took over. It is a nightmare. There was a seperate irrigation system put in for it with its own pump station, which has never run right. With me having to cut expenses across the board, the par 3 course has suffered. Luckily the current board and GM does not care about it and would really like to get rid of it. The only purpose it serves me right now is a good nursery. There are 3 holes designed in a loop around a pond. 3 sets of tees for each hole so someone can play all 3 set and get 9 holes in.
