Our 3150 triplex can not make it 9 holes without the battery dying and the mower needing a jump. We placed a new battery in the mower and it still dies halfway around the course. We know when the mower is going to stall out on us because the reels will not lift at the end of a pass, and then the engine stalls about 10 seconds later. We try to restart the machine immediately and just get the clicking sound of a dead battery. If we attach a jump box to the mower it will start right up, and 9 times out of 10 will finish mowing without stalling again. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Tanks,

Check the stator we had the same problem last season and over the winter we went through the mower and found the stator was cracked and need replaced. Also make sure to see that the stator wire is grounded to bare metal and not something that is painted.

Most likely the regulator, they have it placed very close to the muffler and they receive a lot of heat. I have replaced many and the charging system works fine. Testing the stator must be done in ac current and will be somewhere in the 20's up to 32 volts at full throttle. If its putting out the regulator most likely is the problem, and sometimes you will find one of the plastic connections burned and breaking in your hand as you try and pull them apart.
