Checking Reels Cancel The title field is required!

   I was wondering if everyone used their lift to access reels in order to check for proper adjustment and quality of cut or just removed them to do this. I am a firm believer in daily adjustments as needed and checking quality of cut daily. I am at slight odds with the approach of the person in charge of this type of maintenance at our shop. He may occasionally just spin the reels and adjust the reel to bed knife contact with out checking the quality of the cut and never check the units for adjustment(just responds to complaints of bad cut). That is about as far as he goes to ensure the grass is being cut. I know that our cut is not what it should or could be. If my opinion is in the wrong direction then I would appreciate any feedback either way.

   Are you the boss? If so can't you do something about it?
   
   Back to your question. We put the front wheels of the triplex up on some custom made ramps. Each reel is checked daily and completely gone through if there is a quality of cut issue.

   We put our units on the lift every time they're used. It doesn't matter if they mow one green or 6 greens, a fairway, etc. If it leaves the maintenance facility and mows turf, we check it on the lift. One things for sure, doing it this way, we hardly ever get a call about quality of cut. Oh, it does happen, just not very often. Each operation has their own way of doing things, and if your getting good results, then it's fine. In other situations, you may find that your a firefighter rather than preventing.

   The guys in one of our shops has a Rotary Turf Lift which is similar to a Manitowac or Heftee left, but with trays like the GolfLift. They put the machines on the lift to check the adjustment and cut. At our other shop, the guys have a Heftee lift. The design of these trays makes it very difficult to check the reels of triplexes, so they take those off and check. The fairway mowers go on the lift.

   Same here. If it leaves one of the shops, it gets checked. No exceptions ever.
   
   We use lifts for everything we can to save the Techs backs but sometimes we will check on the course or where ever the machine is to make sure they are perfect.

   We have a Golf Lift...mechanic checks greens cutting units on the lift for quality of cut, then HOC with dial gauge, daily. Freeway and tee units are checked every other time out. He likes the ability to get under the machine and visually inspect the whole machine.
   
   He says there is NO way he'll ever check a unit while it's on the floor ever again...

   My mechanic checks reels after every mowing. He removes the reels from the triplex, but places the fairway units on the lift . Has anyone figured out how to check the front greens reels of a Toro 3150 on a Golf Lift? The back roller sits on the ramp that is attached to the front wheel support, this makes impossible to check HOC on the front reels.

   Your approach seems very reasonable and correct. Like others have asked, are you the final decision maker? If so, make it a daily procedure...
